     Alexander Napier, 1st of Merchistoun died in 1454.1
     He purchased Merchistoun in 1434.1 He lived at Merchistoun, Midlothian, Scotland.1 He held the office of Provost of Edinburgh in 1436.1

Sir Alexander Napier, 2nd of Merchistoun1

     Sir Alexander Napier, 2nd of Merchistoun was the son of Alexander Napier, 1st of Merchistoun.2 He married Elizabeth Lauder, daughter of Sir William Lauder of Hatton.1 He died circa 15 February 1475.1
     In 1439 he tried to help Joan, widow of King James I and grand-daughter of John of Grant, when in she was imprisoned by a faction led by the Livingston family.1 He was a diplomat and businessman.1 In 1449 he was granted the lands of Philde, Perthshire.1 In 1449 Comptroller Royal Household.1 He held the office of Provost of Edinburgh between 1452 and 1455.1 He held the office of Provost of Edinburgh in 1457.1

     John Napier, 3rd of Merchistoun was the son of Sir Alexander Napier, 2nd of Merchistoun and Elizabeth Lauder.2 He married Elizabeth Menteith, daughter of Murdoch Menteith of Rusky and Margaret of Lennox.1 He died circa 3 November 1487.1
