     He gained the rank of Captain in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries, Scotland (F.S.A.Scot.)1 He was Vicar between 1928 and 1955 at Manuden, Essex, England.2 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.)1
