     Hon. Sir David Tennant was born on 10 January 1829.¹ He was the son of Hercules Tennant and Aletta Brand.² He married, firstly, Josina du Toit, daughter of J. du Toit, in 1849.¹ He married, secondly, Amye Venour Bellairs, daughter of Lt.-Gen. Sir William Bellairs, in 1885.¹ He died on 29 March 1905 at age 76.¹
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Cape Town.¹ He held the office of Member of the Legislative Assembly (M.L.A.) [Cape Colony] between 1866 and 1896.¹ He held the office of Speaker of the Legislative Assembly [Cape Colony] between 1874 and 1896.¹ He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1877.¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1892.¹ He was Agent-General to London for the Cape Colony between 1896 and 1902.¹

     Lt.-Gen. Sir William Bellairs was the son of Sir William Bellairs.² He married Emily Craven Gibbons, daughter of Lt.-Col. William Barton Gibbons and Mary Bishop Skeete, on 16 September 1857.² He died on 24 July 1913.
     He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)² He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.)²
