Alexander Innes, 16th of that Ilk was born circa April 1553.2 He was the son of William Innes, 15th of that Ilk and Elizabeth Hepburn.2 He married Jean Gordon, daughter of John Gordon, 11th Earl of Sutherland and Lady Helen Stuart.1 He married Lady Barbara Sinclair, daughter of George Sinclair, 4th Earl of Caithness and Lady Elizabeth Graham, in May 1574.2 He died on 1 January 1577/78 at the Cross, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, beheaded for the murder of Walter Innes, brother of Thomas Innes of Pethnick.2
