Colin James Dalrymple was born on 19 February 1920.1 He was the son of John James Dalrymple, 12th Earl of Stair and Violet Evelyn Harford.1 He married, firstly, Pamela Mary Wickham, daughter of Major John Lamplugh Wickham and Phyllis Ellen Charrington, on 25 August 1945.1 He and Pamela Mary Wickham were divorced in 1954.1 He married, secondly, Fiona Jane Edwards, daughter of Admiral Sir Ralph Alan Bevan Edwards and Joan Le Fowne Hurt, on 12 March 1956.2 He died on 12 January 2017 at age 96.3
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1941 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He fought in the Second World War between 1944 and 1945, in Italy.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Scots Guards.1 He was admitted to Royal Company of Archers.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Midlothian.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Midlothian in 1961.1
