John Hamilton, 4th Earl of Haddington was born in 1626.2 He was the son of Thomas Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Haddington and Lady Catherine Erskine.2 He married Lady Christian Lindsay, daughter of John Lindsay, 17th Earl of Crawford and Lady Margaret Hamilton, on 13 April 1648.2 He died on 31 August 1669.2
He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Haddington [S., 1627] on 8 February 1645.2 He succeeded as the 4th Lord Binning [S., 1613] on 8 February 1645.2 He succeeded as the 4th Lord Byres and Binning [S., 1627] on 8 February 1645.2 He sold territorial Barony of Barnbougle, Dalmeny, co.
