     Hon. William John Turner Clarke was born on 20 April 1805 at Somerset, EnglandG.3 He was the son of William Clarke and Sarah Turner.4 He married Elizabeth Dowling, daughter of Reverend George Pyke Dowling and Anne Biggs, in May 1829.1,3 He died on 13 January 1874 at age 68 at Roseneath, Essendon, Victoria, AustraliaG.3
     He and Elizabeth Dowling emigrated to Hobart, Tasmania, AustraliaG, arriving on 23 December 1829 on board Deveron.1,3 He held the office of Member of the Legislative Council (M.L.C.) [Victoria] between 1856 and 1870.1
