Edward Young1

     Edward Young was born circa 1796 at Pitcairn IslandG.1 He was the son of Edward Young and Mauatua (?)1 He died on 6 November 1831 at Pitcairn IslandG.1
     He accompanied Thursday October Christian to welcome Captain Pipon and the Tagus. Pipon described him as robust, tall, with a natural easy manner.
When he saw a terrier on deck, he is the one who said, 'I know that is a dog ...I have read of such things.2'

     Moses Young was born on 30 September 1829 at Pitcairn IslandG.2 He is the son of Edward Young and Polly Christian.1 He married Albina McCoy, daughter of Daniel McCoy and Sarah Quintal, on 9 July 1848 at Pitcairn IslandG.2 He died on 14 July 1909 at age 79 at Pitcairn IslandG.2
     He and Albina McCoy emigrated on 8 June 1856; on board the transport Morayshire.3 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island between 1865 and 1866.4 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island in 1869.4 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island in 1875.4 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island in 1881.4 He was among the first wave of returnees from Norfolk in 1859. On Sundays, on Pitcairn, the first wave returnees met for services at his house, each of the men alternating in conducting the services. It was in strict accordance with Church of England liturgy. Moses, who had learned to read music from Hugh Carleton, a visitor, owned both a fife and a fiddle. He decided to start a class in music for all who cared to come, and taught the basics of both instruments, and how to play a number of standard church tunes.2
