As we have been saying in some of our articles, people are investing more and more of their time and money in preparing healthy meals. From healthy lifestyle cookbooks to handy appliances, the market is full of products that could help people to get a healthier lifestyle. Food steamers are one of those products. So, in this week’s equipment review, we decided to test the Cuisinart Glass Steamer.
A favorite among experienced chefs, the Cuisinart Glass Steamer is a powerful steam system perfect for consumers looking for a healthy way to cook.
The Cuisinart Glass Steamer is a product designed for the fans of steam cooking.
This unit introduces steam from the top, which is supposed to circulate around your food better than steam introduced from the bottom. From our tests, the top-steaming design cooked our food more evenly when compared with other steam models that introduced steam from the bottom. Our food ends up perfectly cooked without too soft or too crisp spots.
The perforated stainless steel tray also contributes to the even cooking as it holds food up and allows the steam to fully disperse inside the glass basket. Besides that, its large capacity (5-liter) allows food to be spread evenly for better results.
The 5-liter capacity is large enough for family-size portions of vegetables, fish, chicken, rice and more. However, this unit comes without any additional baskets, which means you may have to complete multiple rounds of cooking if you’re looking to make a few different sides.
One of our favorite aspects of this unit is how easy it is to use. First, you need to fill the water reservoir, for that, you simply lifted it off the base, unscrewed the nozzle, and filled it directly from the sink. Once the reservoir is full, you simply place the steaming tray in the basket and you are ready to go. The water reservoir has capacity for 1-liter which is enough to steam an entire meal (and more).
This unit comes with a manual mode where it is possible to customize settings and 5 other preset modes that include seafood, poultry, grains, and vegetables, as well as a “keep warm” function. In addition, there´s also a 60-minute timer and a pause button that allows you to check on your food.
We had the opportunity to test all the preset modes and they all worked great. However, our favorite is the manual mode which gives the ability to set the steamer to suit our own tastes.

Although this unit is on the larger side, it’s very easy to wash and clean in the sink. Besides that, the basket, tray, and lid are also dishwasher-safe. The only part of the Cuisinart Glass Steamer that can’t go in the dishwasher or be immersed in water is the base, which should be wiped down with a damp cloth when needed.
Another thing that makes this unit super quick and easy to use is the included recipe booklet. This book really comes in handy especially for those new to steaming. It has recipes as well as general pointers for cooking common items like vegetables or poultry.
We really like to cook with the Cuisinart Glass Steamer, it’s a very intuitive, effective, and easy-to-clean. The only thing that we would love to see is multiple streamer baskets or even just tiers in the existing one. Even so, this little drawback doesn’t affect the great overall experience when cooking with this unit.
The Cuisinart Glass Steamer is a great appliance, that steams food perfectly and is easy to clean, making it a go-to for healthy home cooks.
