tarak
Borrowed from Malay tajak (“grass-cutter”).
tarak (Baybayin spelling ᜆᜇᜃ᜔)
tarák (Baybayin spelling ᜆᜇᜃ᜔)
Borrowed from English truck. Compare Malay trak and Tagalog trak.
tarak (Sulat Sūg spelling تَرَكْ)
Both Malaysian & Philippine dialects of Tausug use 'tarak' for referring any type of truck, while 'lūri' is generally used only in Malaysia for referring medium and heavy trucks (such as semi-trailer/18-wheeler or articulated lorries).
From Ottoman Turkish طراق (tarak), itself from Proto-Turkic *targak (“comb”) and equivalent to tara- (“to comb”) + -ak. Cognate with Kazakh тарақ (taraq), Bashkir тараҡ (taraq), Kyrgyz тарак (tarak), Tatar тарак (taraq), Azerbaijani daraq, Turkmen darak, Yakut тараах (taraaq), etc.
