From Jurchen wehe, from Proto-Tungusic *ure (“mountain”). Cognate with Evenki урэ (urə).
Alternatively, it may be derived from a Chukotko-Kamchatkan language, cf. Chukchi выквын (wəkwən, “stone”), from Proto-Chukotko-Kamchatkan *ɣəv(ɣəv) (“stone”).[1]
