Inherited from Old East Slavic передати (peredati), from Proto-Slavic *perdati, from *per- + *dati. By surface analysis, пере- (pere-) + дать (datʹ). Doublet of преда́ть (predátʹ), a borrowing from Old Church Slavonic.
