Dutch

Etymology

From weg (gone, away). The first word of this type is verreweg, attested in late Middle Dutch verre wech (by far, literally far away). Other words were subsequently formed by analogy with verreweg, but lacked a clear semantic link to weg (gone, away), thus transforming -weg into a true (and still productive) derivational suffix.
