A relatively recent innovation; palochka was originally caseless Ӏ.
ӏ (upper case Ӏ)
Casing is increasing but still relatively uncommon. Often the capital Roman letter I or the numeral 1 is used instead of a palochka. For some languages, such as Chechen, national keyboards do not include a key specifically for a palochka, and so the Roman numeral or the digit are in standard use.
