Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish به, from Byzantine Greek βρέ (bré), from Ancient Greek μωρέ (mōré), which is the vocative form of μωρός (mōrós). Cognate with Serbo-Croatian bre, Greek ρε (re), and Turkish bre.
