Pi bot - number of unconnected items going up

[edit]

Hello Mike,

for the english language wikipedia there are currently

565 results in Category:Living people without a wikidata item:

Category: Deaths by year contains 190 results without wikidata item:

Could you please check Pi bot, if there is a problem creating/connecting these articles? The numbers of unconnected items are constantly going up, usually there where about 200 (taking into account a delay of two or three weeks before creating/connecting) instead of 565 articles in the first category.

Thanks a lot! M2k~dewiki (talk) 22:55, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@M2k~dewiki: I see 12,000 potential matches for enwiki in the Wikidata Game that need clearing through. Pi bot won't create new items for these until the potential matches have been cleared, to avoid creating duplicates. I think this is what is causing the slow increase in unconnected items. Thanks. Hello Mike, are these 12,000 potential matches cases, where Pi bot cannot decided, if an item is already existing, or could Pi bot try to connect at least some of them to existing items, where it is possible without doubt? M2k~dewiki (talk) 17:52, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Pi bot only auto-matches with biographies, not with other types of articles at the moment. I'll put out an appeal for people to play the game to reduce the backlog. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 17:57, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are *all* of the unconnected, more than 550 biographies cases, where Pi bot is not abled to decide, if an item exists or could Pi bot at least connect some of them to existing items? M2k~dewiki (talk) 18:03, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, they should be - if the backlog of potential matches can be decreased, then it'll make it easier to check individual cases. Have posted en:Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Please_help_checking_potential_new_article_matches_with_Wikidata_items_by_playing_a_game. Thanks. @M2k~dewiki: We're down to 6,666(!) unresolved potential matches. How are the other statistics doing? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 20:27, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Mike, from my point of view nothing has changed. Also see

When will your bot stop lying?

[edit]

When will your bot stop lying? 188.232.28.149 03:14, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That is not a super constructive way to start a discussion. Samoasambia 14:01, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Then let's thank the bot for regularly using questionable sources! And for some reason, repeated requests not to do this do not help... 188.232.28.149 16:52, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As stated before, the bot's importing from Wikipedias - in this case, Simple Wikipedia. It seems there's sometimes vandalism there. The solution is to remove the erroneous date of deaths from simple wikipedia - e.g., [1]. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 17:10, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can I get a wikidata confirmed user? I opened account last 5 days and added more than 200 edits and new information. Also I have a lot of ideas about Wikidata. I believe in my work and spend a lot of time editing Wikidata. Thanks Xikmoryt (talk) 15:54, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
