A ‘QINGBAI’ BALUSTER VASE NORTHERN SONG DYNASTY the lobed body raised on a flaring foot, the straight neck opening to a wide rim, deftly incised with vertical lines dividing the nine lobes and further diagonal strokes skirting the foot, the neck encircled by three fillets, applied overall with a transparent glaze pooling to a darker tone in the recessed areas, 17.5 cm

This vase is a part of the official ware made for the imperial court of the Southern Song dynasty in Hangzhou. Its octagonal profile begins at the foot, rises through the body, and continues up its long tapering neck, which is divided into three segments. The rim is circular and flattened. Overall height is 8.5”. The clay is stoneware, and the glaze is an opaque, satiny, blue-green with relatively dense crazing.
