Because if it doesn't turn out.
Gary is not going to be happy.
He's going to be very upset.
We don't like to do things twice.
It goes good and stops great and it handles like it's on rails.
(engine roars) The front grille is actually very reminds me of early Jaguar design.
Very nice.
Every car has a story.
Like, the best thing ever.
For some, they end up here.
These are just some of the stories about those who collect and restore vehicles, giving them a renewed lease on life so that their stories can be told right here on Radical Restoration.

It's a beautiful car.
We painted it quite some time ago.
And all the trim and the interior has been done.
The customer had the car at home and they were moving the hood off and on the car.
And as you can see, you know, it's it's damaged it in a few spots.
Same with the edge of the hood over here on the stand.
You can see it over here.
So what we're going to do is we're going to we're going to fix this all up for him and make it all pretty.
We're going to give it a couple of extra coats, of clear on it.
Polish it again for him and put all the trim back on, because when you go to that show, everything's got to be right.
He's done a very nice job on the car.
As you can see, he's even got an era correct license plates, even all the parts and pieces here, hoses are correct.
Stampings are correct.
You know, the battery's been done to look like an original.
The detail in this car is terrific.
If you follow me around here, you can see that the dashboard, the dashboard and everything is just fantastic.
Once we've got it all unwrapped again, we'll go through the car.
We'll show you all the little details on it.
But these are very, very collectible.
And there's just not that many around.
This is a unique color.
It's called a regal turquoise.
And it was specific for this car.
There's some other colors, tropical turquoise.
But that was very specific for this car.
And when we do the front, we want to make sure there's a few different marks in the car.
We're going to just dust it back.
And then we have to scuff it like this to get the clear on it.
We've already got a fair bit of clear on the car, but we're going to put at least two more coats on and that allows us a nice, nice base for polishing.
It already has four coats on it now, so it'll be nice.
It'll come out just like glass.
(music) Survived without a heart attack.
But it's all it's all apart.
I've got everything.
Well, everything is safe.
I know where everything goes so that that's good.
It was just.
It's.
It wasn't.
Wasn't fun.
Wasn't easy.
I don't like to turn a car apart like that, but You got to do what you got to do So Theyve even used a brass nut Assuming they did that, so to prevent the corrosion.
That's involved, you know.
(music) You would think with these two nuts this thing would just come off.
But this is actually behind here.
So this would have to come off before I can even remove this.
And I can't force it because there's a there's a stud going right here.
So I can't get this off without pulling this thing off first.
(music) So if doesn't turn out.
Gary is not going to be happy.
He's going to be very upset.
We don't like to do things twice.
Once and one only.
We might get a few little dust bunnies and dirt in it, but thats polishable.
You know?
But I don't want to do that.
Like, I don't want to end up having to polish the whole car, just certain areas that needs it.
But yeah, you get kind of nervous when it comes down to it.
You just got to calm down and then go ahead and do your thing and see how it turns out, and hope for the best.
Things don't always work out the way you would expect them to.
So.
(painting fan) (music) So how did it turn?
It turned out pretty good.
I'm happy with it.
I had a lot of problems in here lately, but I hate that, that's what I don't need right at this point.
But as far as overspray and everything goes underneath the car, it come out great.
Whole day of masking.
It took me about all of 10 minutes to unmask it (music) It was quicker to paint the car than it was to mask it up, where he found all these parts for this car, all these brand new clips and stuff, brand new door rubbers.
I don't know where you found all that stuff, but apparently he said he's been collecting stuff for over 20 years for this car.
So right there at the end of my finger, do you see it?
Barely Let's see if we can get rid of it.
It's just a little piece of dirt and paint I may or may not be able to get it out But Im going to try.
(music) (car races by) My name's Stewart and I'm from Rama close to Orillia, This is my ride here.
It's a it's a cobra replica made by a company called Super Performance.
They are made in a factory in South Africa.
They come complete less motor, transmission.
I've had it six years.
Now it's a 427 stroker motor in it, 515 horse, 500 foot lbs of torque goes very nicely, but by the way can be a handful.
My dream car.
Since I was been a knee, I always wanted one of these.
Finally, I got the opportunity six years ago and I haven't looked back.
I love it.
Love every day.
Best stress reliever I've ever owned.
I've lusted after this car probably since I was eight years old.
I remember doing nothing but reading magazines on Carroll, Shelby and the Cobra, and it stuck with me ever since.
(engine starts) (car peels away) The motor in this car was a Roush.
Roush motors.
It's a it's a 427.
It was dynoed at 515 horse with 500 foot lbs of torque.
It's got a TKO 600 transmission, five speed.
So it's great for cruising on the highway.
It's not, you know, reving excessively high, independent four wheel suspension, four wheel disc brakes so it's got just got all the goodies and it goes good and stops great and it handles like it's on rails (engine revs louder) it's I always say and I mean it when I say it.
It's the best stress reliever I've ever had.
You can have the lousiest day and come home.
Go for a ride and everything is forgotten.
So it's just my dream come true.
And fortunately I've been blessed with a wife that's been very supportive over the years.
After telling her for about 30 years that one day I'm going to get one, one day I'm going to get one.
And so she was very supportive, too.
I'm just thrilled to death, thrilled to bits with it, everything just fell into place.
It was at the right place at the right time, you know, saw the ad took about nine months back and forth conversation via email and that type of thing with the owner.
I flew out to Calgary, that's where the car was.
And like I say, about nine months later I flew out.
We checked it out, absolutely fell in love with it.
It was the color I wanted, the motor.
I wanted the brand I wanted.
And I just did the deal.
And I flew home.
I called the transport truck and it was a long, agonizing two weeks.
By the time it finally showed up in front of my house.
(car drives by) And what my neighbor did, which I didn't know about three days later, he knocks on the door and he did a black and white charcoal painting of the car all framed up.
And he said, Here, I thought you'd like this.
And, you know, I nearly kind of fell out, fell down and I couldn't believe it.
And I have that hanging proudly on my wall.
(car drives by) And we're at the Toronto International Car Show down at the Convention Center, a beautiful arrangement of cars.
We're going to drop in, give you a little variety of all the different cars that are here, from the exotics tuner cars.
And of course, we've got the hot rods and choppers, which is always our favorite area.
So we'll meet up with the folks, hopefully at Cobble Beach theyre in here as well.
Mike Livia's 36 Ford Copper head truck is here.
So it should be an interesting variety of stuff for you to look at.
Art and the automobile is a display of rarely seen unique automobiles and the appropriate advertising for the year of the car.
And it's all here to support Cobble Beach.
Well, let's look at the Auburn here.
This is a 1935 Auburn boat tail speedster.
It's a supercharged car.
It's owned by a gentleman from Newfoundland who actually has a 80 to 100 car collection.
And it's open to the public about eight months a year just outside of Saint John.
So he has muscle cars.
He has.
And he goes back to the 1906 Buick.
He like some of the big iron here, so supercharged could only be afforded by very, very wealthy people.
These these cars were worth the price of a house.
So in today's dollars, they'd be multimillion dollar cars and they're fully restored.
But we don't have any original cars in here.
This year.
All of our cars are are basically restored cars.
Auburn's unique because it was part of the group of cars out of Auburn, Indiana.
So Auburn, there's a Cord which has front wheel drive and there's a Duesenberg.
So ACD Auburn Cord, Duesenberg.
They were all built in the same plant and in Auburn, Indiana.
And they were for the actors, the actresses, the big financiers, the multiple billionaire people.
And that's what they had.
And in many cases, these cars were driven by chauffeurs.
Some of the owners, sometimes they would drive them, but many times they had they had a person because these cars required a lot of maintenance.
Wasn't like today where you buy a car in a showroom, you might take it back 30,000 miles later or whatever, whatever.
These these cars required regular adjustment of brakes, clutches, frequent oil changes.
Many of these cars didn't even have an oil filter.
So a lot of maintenance to these cars and they're big and they're heavy.
And the brakes didn't last very long.
They're all drum brake cars.
So a different era of of motoring.
Back in the day.
(music) The Starliners and the Hawks were very, very popular, beautiful, beautiful car.
You know, it costs a lot more to bring them back to life than they're actually worth, which is a real, real shame.
Beautiful design.
Another different version of the Studebaker that we just saw out front.
But we this one is the Avanti very interesting design.
1958 Parisienne.
Look at the two tone and look at the detail in the dash is that not gorgeous or what?
That's car jewelry.
It's just beautiful.
I like the detail.
Even in the armrests, you see, the armrests have got polished strips in the armrest.
Look at the continental kit on the back here.
The beautiful, all polished extension for the Continental kit in the tire carrier.
If you look at the lines and the trunk lid, they've got those pressed and stamped right in the trunk lid, gorgeous.
Hows that for a grille, the Grille and bumpers, probably about 600lbs And this is a great design to these are actually very hard to find as well, Airflow, nice, if you come to the front John, you also see the nice rounded front nose on it as well.
And it keeps with the same design as the rear roofline and the fenders as well.
You can see how they were all stealing each other's designs, though.
If you look at back at the 37 Fords, this is a 35 and 37 Ford grilles were very similar in nature to these.
Everybody was snitching design cues from each other.
I think I love this bracketry that holds the bumpers together, it's like built like a tank.
You see your air intakes below the headlights too as well.
The grilles beautiful.
But you know, this is also a lovely accent here as these are the three strips that follow the roof the hood line is beautiful.
Well, the designers in this era, multiple different designers, even Chrysler and GM, they these guys had a certain you could almost tell whose stuff it was because they just loved the flowing fenders and stuff.
So they always trying to out do each other each year with designs and, you know, whether it was whatever was happening at that time, they tended to follow this stuff and they would, you know, nice, rounded fenders.
We used to call them the fat fender cars.
But even back, you know, you start to get up into the sixties and you look at all the space race stuff where that becomes a real big cue you know, almost every car with the dagger fenders and the, you know, torpedo mounted headlights and tail lights and push button controls and squared off steering wheels and things like that.
So they're these designers, as they come along, you can really see their touch on on these cars through the era.
Like, it's just amazing.
I love these designs.
That's just terrific stuff, the detail, and it's unbelievable.
Now, you know, where the expression the trunk came from.
So this one here would have a rumble seat in the back.
So this would flip up and then you'd have your back seat here and then your side door.
This here would be for your golf clubs.
So you'd open that slide your golf clubs in, beautiful car.
Nice Cadillac logos in the middle and the spoke rims.
This thing is very, very nice.
The work on the roof alone, incredible.
You see out here, they even had a courtesy light built into the side for the running board.
So you didn't misstep when you were getting in the car.
Good idea.
With the side mirror, too on the side.
So they mounted one they mounted it on the on the tire.
Now.
look at this grill.
Isn't that something?
(music) You just can't beat this.
And what's really interesting here, I don't know if you can see it or not, you come around this side, you see the rod coming out from the wheel well and you have this bar that comes across here as the steering wheel turns, these lights turn to follow the curve in the road.
So nowadays they think that that was something Tuckers had them, but that was much later.
But I mean, here we are back in the thirties with that design.
This is why I love what we do.
Like, I love bringing these old cars back.
I love seeing this stuff.
It's it's art.
It really is, you know, And it's a shame.
It's it's an era gone by.
And I really think that we need to keep bringing these things back to life.
You know, you see them, you just don't ignore them.
Fix them.
You know what looks like it's got a double rack on it.
It's got a folding rear rack as well as a trunk.
That red is just gorgeous.
its actually two tones of red there.
As you can see by the the lower it's got that beautiful dark and then a little bit lighter and then they've carried the dark in as well up here.
But look at the length of this thing.
You know what I mean?
It's beautiful.
You look at the little details, look at the straps on the roof to match side rear lower.
Very, very nice.
Look at the detail and the running boards alone.
And again, this is just another style of a courtesy light.
This one has you know, you've got a handle there.
Look at the chrome.
It's just.
(music) love the pipes.
(music) And again, same pivoting design with the headlight, er, with the driving lights on the lower you can see the armature coming out from the steering and the lights would move with the steering wheel.
Look at the size of the headlights on that.
(laughs) (music) Well, this is another prime example of craftsmanship.
This is a 31 Imperial and, and I love the the screen in between the driver's compartment and the passengers.
They've got the glass and the side wind deflectors on it.
It's gorgeous.
It's flips up and doors open.
You see the size of the steering wheel.
Obviously, there was no power steering back then, so it was all about leverage.
The larger diameter allowed them to turn it smoothly.
Beautiful car, love the color, carried the trim work again into the piping on the roof.
Gorgeous even the woodwork alone.
What's really nice about this roof is it's quite high in the back and then it slopes down to the front.
So it has a really nice rake to it.
(music) You can see here you look at the size of the the beautiful detail and the rims with the pin striping as well.
It's a 1915 Cadillac pin striping is very nice on it.
What's interesting, if you can zoom in on it, is the steering wheel.
It pivots out of the way.
So the driver can get out.
Easier pivot system, lots of area for the passengers, way more so in this car.
See the the room and an 1904 Oldsmobile and look at the price on the sign, $650.
(laughs) (music) Love the horn squeeze bottle but those lamps are, I can't even imagine what those lamps are worth.
(music) It's very interesting how the suspension works this leaf spring inverted is just the whole length of the vehicle.
You see the multi layers here.
(music) Beautiful stuff.
1928 Isotta, shipped in from Italy and it should have a boat tail design on this.
Yes, it does.
Yes.
Yeah.
It tucks down nicely at the back.
Beautiful.
Look at the mechanics on the side of the roof.
Even the pivots and the detail and just go into that alone.
They're not kidding when they said the art of the automobile.
This is why.
beautiful laid back grille.
I love the chrome down the side of it.
A dividing line between the two colors is very, very nice.
The rear skirts over the wheels add a nice touch too.
The front grille is actually very reminds me of early Jaguar design.
Very nice.
Mikes 36 Fords found this nice little spot for itself over in the corner.
I love the detail on this truck.
This way.
Just keeps on winning.
All the copper accents seem to be a big, big hit.
This is.
This is pretty exciting.
I know you're in the final, what five here at the Toronto International Show.
Yeah.
So there was a contest online and I submitted photos of the truck.
Right.
And they out of I think was 70 or 75 vehicles.
They selected five to come down to the to the Toronto International Car show and and they're scattered throughout the show.
Right And when you come down you text your number of.
Who you want which one.
Yeah.
And the winner can take home five grand.
Pretty nice.
Personally, I like.
The copper details on it.
It's pretty cool you're on a roll man This this truck cleaned up last year and here we are just into the start of the new year.
Now, from here, the trucks going to Detroit.
We're going we're headed out to Detroit Autorama to compete upstairs at Cobo Hall.
So hopefully they'll enjoy the truck there and a lot of people enjoy it.
And hopefully if I make the final, I'll be back at Motorama Motorama at the international Center.
And then the week after, Motorama, we're headed to Cleveland and hopefully do we do well there?
So there you go.
The truck just keeps on going.
Keeps on trucking.
Yeah.
This was amazing.
Yeah.
Again, I built the car for me and my kids to enjoy it.
It's amazing that, you know, everyone loves it.
