Moses: Hearing God's Call
- 2. Background of the story (Exodus 1-2)
- 3. God’s call to Moses
- 4. God got Moses’ attention and confronted him (3:2- 5)
- 7. Moses was commanded to assume a humble stance. (5) • Moses bowed and hid his face in fear. (6)
- 8. God revealed his plan to free His people and commissioned Moses to go to Pharaoh (3:7-10)
- 9. God saw the misery and suffering of the Israelites in Egypt. (7, 9)
- 10. He had a plan to free them and take them to their own beautiful land. (8, 10)
- 11. Moses was to go to Pharaoh and to lead the people out of Egypt. (10)
- 12. Not all God’s calls are to religious work. •Your first call is a call to a relationship with God. • God calls us whenever he wants; sometimes we aren’t expecting it. • God gives all believers gifts for service and calls us to use them.
- 13. Moses objects, BUT God reassures him. (3:11-22; 4:1-17)
- 14. First excuse- “I’m not qualified.” (11) • God answers- “I will be with you.” (12)
- 15. Second Excuse- “I don’t have all the answers.” (13) • God answers- “Tell them I AM THAT I AM sent you.” (14)
- 17. Third excuse- “They won’t believe me.” (4:1) • God gives Moses miraculous signs to perform. (4:2-9)
- 18. Fourth excuse- “I’m not gifted.” (4:10) • God answers- “I will help you speak.” (4:11-12)
- 19. Fifth excuse- “I don’t want to go; send someone else!” (4:13)
- 20. Not Me • God answers- “All right…what about your brother Aaron…” (4:14-16) • God reminds him to take his shepherd’s staff. (4:17)
- 21. We are good at excuses, too! –Often we use the same excuses Moses gave. –Many times our excuses are pretty lame.
- 22. Although we anger God by our excuses, God promises to equip us and be present with us.
- 23. Assignment: •Read Psalm 25:1-5 aloud as a prayer.
- 24. Spend some quiet time alone, listening to God; be open to his calling you: •into a closer relationship •to preparation for greater service •to His service in our church of community •to serve someone else.
- 26. Pray for a submissive heart and will.
