 Croatia is a small country located on the Adriatic
sea.
 Our country borders with
Slovenia,Hungary,Serbia,Bosnia and Herzegovina
and Montenegro on land and with Italy on the sea.
 Croatia's independence in 1991 was the cause of
Independence war fought from 1991 to 1995.
 The symbol of the war is Vukovar,the city of
heroes,which is still not recovered from lots of
damage.

 Franjo Tudman was the first Croatian president
after independence.
 The official language of Croatia is Croatian.
 The official currency in Croatia is kuna.
 The Croatian flag is made of three
colours:red,white and blue.
 The biggest and the capital city in Croatia is
Zagreb,the second biggest is Split and the third is
Rijeka.

 Croatia has a lot of famous monuments and seven
of them are listed in UNESCO’s World heritage
list.
 Croatia monuments under the protection of
UNESCO are: Diocletian’s Palace - Split,
Eufrazie’s Basilic – Porec, Historical town of
Trogir, St.Jacob’s cathedral in Sibenik, Dubrovnik
old town, The Plitvice lakes and Oldtown field.

 There are also a lot of natural treasures in our
country.
 National parks:
Brijuni,Krka,Mljet,Kornati,Paklenica, The Plitvice
lakes,Risnjak and North Velebit.

 There are 1244 islands in Croatia.
 The biggest islands are Krk and Cres.
 Some of our famous islands are
Hvar,Brac,Korcula,Pag,Rab...

 Leopold Ruzicka and Vladimir Prelog were the
only Croats who won a Nobel prize.
 Nikola Tesla,one of the greatest minds in
history,was born in Croatia.
 Slavoljub Penkala was a Croat who invented a
mechanical pen.
 Sandra Perkovic is a Croatian discus thrower,who
is currently olympic,world and european
champion.
 Janica Kostelic is a former alpine ski racer who
won 4 gold and 2 silver olympic medals.
 Goran Ivanisevic is a former tennis player who
won Wimbeldon in 2001.
