STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Chase bank customers can now "tap" their smartphone on the ATM to easily and securely access money.
Customers will no longer need a physical debit card or access code for authentication at nearly all of its 16,000 Chase ATM locations in the United States.
"Cardless no longer means cashless," said Sol Gindi, chief administrative officer of consumer banking at Chase, in a press release. "As more of our customers are using digital wallets to pay, we're pleased to be able to provide them with the same experience at the ATM."
Those with a Chase debit or Liquid card can use cardless ATM access if they upload their cards to an eligible mobile wallet, like Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.
A mobile wallet allows you to carry your debit card or credit card information in a digital form on your mobile device. Instead of using the physical card to make transactions or purchases, you can use your eligible phone or smartwatch.
Here's how to use the ATM without your card:
1. Access your mobile wallet on your phone and select your virtual Chase Debit Card.
2. Look for the Cardless symbol on the ATM, and tap it with your phone. Some mobile wallets may prompt you to authenticate the transaction using an additional security feature, such as a fingerprint, passcode or facial recognition.
3. Once the ATM has successfully identified the eligible card in your mobile wallet, you will be prompted to enter the ATM PIN associated with your card.
Using cardless ATM access is the same as using your physical card. You can complete the same types of transactions and your withdrawal limits are the same.
Customers can still use their plastic cards at ATMs if they don't have a mobile wallet.
