How to Grow & HarvestΒ Marjoram

Β

When to Plant

Marjoram plants can easily be started from seeds. Β Get an early start on growing this herb by starting the seeds indoors before the last frost as a houseplant. Β If you will be direct sowing them into your garden, do so in spring once the threat of frost has passed.Β

Β

How to Plant

Marjoram grows best in full sun locations with well drained soil. Β They can tolerate drought and can do well in average soils. Β Marjoram is actually very drought resistant and only needs to be watered once or twice a week. Β There is no need to fertilize this plant. Harvest the flowers as soon as they appear, because the leaves will turn bitter once the flowers set. Β

Β

When to Harvest

Start harvesting your marjoram as soon as it has produced a few dozen leaves. Β The young, tender leaves have the best flavor. Β Harvesting is best done early in the morning when the oils are the strongest. Β  Place the leaves in a dry, cool ventilated area. Β Once dried, you can put them in the freezer for a later time.Β
