Here, the authors develop a concept for the synthesis of multiple narrow and intense optical spectral lines over a broad infrared region. This concept constitutes a promising way for multi-gas detection and multispectral microscopic imaging.

The authors revisit ultrafast fiber lasers with anomalous dispersion to propose a new laser design enhancing dissipative effects. Their approach yields high-energy few-picosecond pulses, blending soliton features for improved flexibility and scalability.

A Brillouin laser-driven terahertz oscillator is developed. The phase noise level of the generated terahertz waves is less than –100 dBc Hz^–1, translating to timing noise below 10 as Hz^–1/2 at 10 kHz Fourier frequency, over a carrier frequency range from 300 GHz to 3 THz.

The pure-high-even-order dispersion bound solitons complexes, which build up in high-order dispersion management ultra-fast fiber laser, are revealed both theoretically and experimentally, enriching the framework towards multi-soliton complexes.

Nonlinear optical effects are by default weak but they can be enhanced by sculpting the resulting spectrally periodic pulses from a fibre laser into an optimal shape.
