FAFSA

Create a StudentAid.gov account (if you don’t already have one).
- Every contributor—anyone (you, your spouse, a biological or adoptive parent, or your parent’s spouse) who is required to provide information on the FAFSA form—needs a StudentAid.gov account before accessing and completing their section of the online form.
Gather the needed documents before starting the FAFSA. These documents may include:
- Your parents’ Social Security numbers if they have one and you’re a dependent student
- Tax returns
- Records of child support received
- Current balances of cash, savings, and checking accounts
- Net worth of investments, businesses, and farms

You will receive a submission summary within three days after submitting the FAFSA form. The submission summary will provide the following information: eligibility overview, FAFSA form answers, school information, and next steps.
Northland College will review your FAFSA and the calculated Student Aid Index (SAI) to determine your financial aid eligibility.
- Your Student Aid Index (SAI) is a number that helps financial aid professionals determine how much need-based aid a student is eligible to receive.
  
  Your SAI is not:
  - A dollar amount of aid you’ll receive
  - What your family is expected to provide
  - Your final financial aid offer
Your financial aid award will be mailed to you. Upon receiving this, you will need to accept or decline any aid.

- Check your FAFSA form status
- Provide required verification or information if needed
