Attorney and son of US Congressman Bob Mollohan (1909-1999), elected to Congress in 1982, succeeding his father. Conservative "Blue Dog" Democrat; generally anti-abortion rights, pro-gun rights. Back-bencher with no significant legislative accomplishments. Supported 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act, 1991 Gulf War resolution, 1997 Kyoto Protocol to address climate change, 2006 Secure Fence Act, 2008 Wall Street bailout, 2008 GM/Chrysler bailout, 2009 economic stimulus, 2010 health care reform; opposed 1993 North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), 1998-99 Clinton impeachment, 2001 USA PATRIOT Act, 2002 Iraq War resolution, 2005 Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA).

Forced by Democratic Party leadership to resign from the House Ethics Committee in 2006, amidst media reports of filing false financial disclosure forms, though Mollohan was not prosecuted. Also accused but never charged over directing $194M in Congressional earmarks to companies that had contributed to his family-run charity. Lost in the 2010 Democratic Party primary to state legislator Mike Oliverio, and succeeded in Congress by David McKinley.
