Capt. Queeg takes command of the USS Caine, destroyer in the Pacific Theater of WWII. The communications officer, Lt. Keefer, considers Queeg insane but it unable to convince the first officer, Lt. Maryk, of this. After the ship is nearly lost in a typhoon, Maryk relieves Queeg but everything is not cut and dried. Maryk and the officer of the deck, Ens. Keith, stand trial for mutiny.
