Best friends and showgirls Lorelei Lee and Dorothy Shaw travel to Paris, the bill paid for by Lorelei's wealthy fiancé Gus Esmond; on the same ship is Ernie Malone, private detective hired by Gus's father to follow the two girls. Dorothy falls in love with Malone but Lorelei has her eyes on the married Lord Beekman, owner of the 2nd largest diamond mine in South Africa. Includes the number "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend." In 1949-51, the Broadway play starring Carol Channing ran for 740 performances.
