Roger Waters had been with Pink Floyd for many years and I think many will agree that he was one of the main composers within the band who put a lot of input and created some brilliant albums in his time e.g Animals and The Final Cut, but i believe many will agree that his masterpiece was The Wall. The Wall in itself has many meanings that can reflect upon any one but I believe this performance had even more of a meaning as it was performed in the no mans land in Berlin which was surrounded by two walls. Roger Waters masterpiece also being made into a film as well as the large scale performance also was incredible. Despite the fact of Rogers Age from when he wrote the original recording in 1979 his voice has not yet suffered and his playing skills are even better and I would recommend this filming of The Wall Live in Berlin to anyone who wants to see a rock concert like no other and is a large scale fan of Rogers and Pink Floyd's work. I am a big fan of Pink Floyd and so I was very excited to see a DVD copy of this film in my local bookstore. Although the only Floyd member involved in the concert and film was Roger Waters, I still thought it would be worth watching, if for no other reason than I had heard and read so much about the lavish spectacle that was the Wall performed live. After hearing the live show talked up so much, this film did not disappoint. From the opening chords to the insanely over-the-top finale, the Wall Live in Berlin is a sight to behold. The incredible songs and music of the album are added to by the huge number of guest stars and performers present at the concert, an ecclectic group that ranges from Cyndi Lauper to the Band and Van Morrison. I do have to say, however, that watching the concert live on a television really gives very little of the feel for what it must have been like in Potsdamer Platz on the night of the performance. When I watch this film, it is as much for the sounds as it is for the sights. The performances are wonderful to watch, but as with any live performance of an album you have grown to love, live performances tend to differ greatly from the recorded version (especially when only one of the four band members is involved in the concert). Some of the camera work can be a bit disorienting, and it is hard to keep track of what is going on with the huge wall being built behind the performers at the same time as watching them sing. All in all, I would recommend this movie to anyone who is a Pink Floyd fan, or just a Roger Waters fan, as much for the music as for the film itself.
