Budapest's hipster capital

Budapest's District 7 was my personal favorite part of Budapest, and I'd say it's one of the most unique neighborhoods anywhere in Europe. Why? Simple: the mix of history, culture, nightlife, and restaurants. Aside from being the hipster capital of Hungary, District 7 is also home to the city's Jewish community, the majority of the Budapest's legendary ruin bars, and a near-endless variety of restaurants and bistros ranging from traditional Hungarian to creative, modern cooking.

I'd recommend setting aside an entire day of your trip to Budapest to explore District VII as well as some of the nearby sights in the neighboring District 8 or the Inner City. So, here's what I'd suggest: start your day early exploring the streets and grab a Hungarian-style bagel and coffee at one of the quaint, vintage-inspired cafes or Kosher bakeries. Then at 10:00, start your synagogue tour. Most of the city's most famous and beautiful synagogues are located in the 7th District, but the three I'd especially recommend are the Rumbach Street Synagogue, the Kacinczy Street Synagogue, and of course the incredible Dohany Street Synagogue with its memorial gardens.
