Authentic Moroccan Henna Art

A million hits without any reference or explanation on the how and the why can be pretty overwhelming. And on top of that….are they truly authentic Moroccan?  Spoiler alert: They are not! Here I do it old school…according to the way ancient crafts were passed down from master to apprentice….step by step you will draw along with me while I demonstrate the how and tell you all about the why.

What do I learn?

You will learn my renowned 5 steps method that teaches you how to create Fessi Henna designs from scratch.
Since childhood I have been under the spell of Moroccan henna. Throug the years I have been analysing all the Moroccan Henna designs i came across from experiencing Neqachet work at weddings untill photos of henna parties. This analysis was my foundation to develop my 5 steps method that will allow you, whether you're a newbie or a professional to create any Fessi Henna design that you wish for.

I'm your teacher

Salam! My name is Fatima Oulad Thami, expert on Moroccan Henna Culture and I am often asked: "Why did you choose to do Henna?" But that is not how I see it. I did not choose to do Henna, Henna chose me. I am merely the instrument, the window, the bridge, medium, whatever you wish to call it, through which the story of Henna Art may be told.  This craft is magical. Once it has touched your heart, it anchors itself in your soul and will not let you go.
The passion that i feel for Henna Art became my way of life. My lifestyle is reflected in every word, color, design and photo in this page.
Merhababik, be welcome and enjoy with all your senses.

Why learn from me?

Moroccan Henna culture is not only my expertise but also my deepest passion. I have been running my Henna business professionally for 20 + years. In addition to the henna services I offer, I also run a Henna supplies webshop and a Henna academy. I have been asked to teach at the most prominent henna conferences worldwide. I have inspired thousands of women so far to embrace the Moroccan Henna style and acknowledge its value. Now it’s your turn to embrace this meaningful authentic beauty ritual and experience how it will change your life.

Intangible heritage includes a.o. practices, knowledge and skills that express cultural identity and diversity. I actively propagate and safeguard the practition of Moroccan Henna Art and therefor I ‘m an ambassador of Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2014. Henna Art was added to the National Inventory of Intangible and Cultural Heritage in the Netherlands due to my safeguarding plans. This Inventory charts Intangible Heritage and helps communities and artisans to safeguard their traditions and preserve them for future generations.
The compilation of the National Inventory is one of the obligations the Netherlands undertook to fulfill when the UNESCO Convention for the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage was ratified.

Fatima is an amazing, incredible, strong and artistic woman.

Loved the design she did on me at the Henna Huddle conference. Despite having already done so many for the other attendees, she still did a little something for me to remember her by.

I learned so much from her classes during Huddle. The post pivotal moment was when we had the breakouts and I was the only one with her during the breakouts and got to really understand Fessi henna and learned in detail about authentic Fessi and 'Fessi Fusion'.

The teaching was very clear with relaying her ideas to the class. The structure of the classes were clean and simple to digest making it easy to follow along with what she was trying to teach. The class material was very informative and useful too as reference points. Key part which really made the resources useful was that some of the designs were color coded to show how it's constructed. This helps breaking down the design.

Fatima was not hesitant in answering questions or holding back information and was an open book wanting everyone to learn and take Fessi away with them. Fatima is an amazing, incredible, strong and artistic woman. I really don't have enough words to let you know how amazing she is as a person!

She has her own signature style that you can recognize from miles away.

I wanted to learn Fessi from someone that actually knew the Moroccan culture and could tell me more about the background. Normally I teach myself, but I wanted to have a solid base to start from and the information and examples of Moroccan henna online didn't seem trustworthy. 10/10 would recommend!

I participated in The Hand of Fatima Henna Academy after my good experience with the workshop about Fessi. My overall experience with the Hand of Fatima Henna Academy is positive. I've learned a lot and I also got to participate in different events to practice my henna skills under pressure (doing henna at home is a lot different than at an event). Everything was always well prepared.

Fatima is very (very, very, very) passionate about cultural heritage and female empowerment, but also about sharing. She knows how to transfer her enthusiasm and knowledge of the art of henna onto others and has become an inspiration to many people world wide. Because of her mixed Dutch and Moroccan heritage, she's become a bridge between two worlds.

She has dreams, but is not a dreamer. When she has new ideas she'll work hard to turn those dreams into reality. Fatima is creative and innovative. She's caring and is a fun person to be around. She teaches, inspires, laughs and shares, but what she doesn't do, is give up!
