" C.S. Lewis, is the author of the "Chronicles of Narnia" books. Known as Jack, he teaches at Oxford during the 1950s. An American fan, Joy Gresham, arrives to meet him for tea in Oxford. It is the beginning of a love affair. Tragically, Joy becomes terminally ill and their lives become complicated. The film was a critical success, and did decently in theatres, and received several awards nominations. A pre Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes was also in this film."
“N.B. I’m not sure, of course, exactly what I’d think of this movie if I saw it again, but I’ve very conservatively downgraded it based on how I’ve reacted to romantic films I’ve seen more recently and the changes in my point of view. At some point I might remove the review entirely; I’m not sure.

Eventually, it turned out to be a biopic about C.S. Lewis but, instead of focusing on his work such as the ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ books, they focused on how he fell in love with his wife. And that was already the first issue, was it really the most interesting thing that happened to the renowned author? Obviously, the idea was to focus on a seemingly very intelligent man who has figured out many theories about God and the mean” read more
"Shadowlands is the true story of the author CS Lewis and his relationship with the American writer Joy Gresham. This is a beautiful movie, set mostly in the lovely English countryside around Oxford in the mid 50's. The period is well depicted, and you feel that you have stepped back slightly in time. The script is brilliant. Emotional issues are handled with great intelligence, and comic touches help to lighten what is sometimes a very dark story. The acting is excellent. Anthony Hopkins' portra"
