It may not seem much, but The Rescuers is one of Disney's most haunting and depressing cartoons with a violent atmosphere. Little kids may laugh at the silly antics of the mice (such as when Bernard's tail gets stuck in the book, etc...) and may find the crocodiles "cool", but we, the adults, get to see much more than that. I had only the foggiest recollection of The Rescuers. I know that I have seen it at some point in my development, but the only thing I could really remember about it was the scene where Madame Medusa rips off her fake eyelashes and removes her makeup. To be honest, I have never been a huge fan of this movie. I mean, sure, it is quite cute but it is just way too childish for my taste. On top of that, even though the animation was technically not bad, it is pretty much one of the ugliest, or at least, one of the least visually appealing animated features delivered by Disney. “I can't fault this movie at all, other than to say the video I have is a bit grainy. The film is undeniably charming, based on the books by Margery Sharp, which I haven't read.

The animation was just wonderful, right from minute one. It was dark and fluid, and reminded me of the masterpieces of Don Bluth like American Tail and Secret of NIMH. It matched the music perfectly, and none of the characters were drawn stereotypically. I loved the fact they made the protagonists mice, which shows a lot of originality. I was laughing so much at the swamp animals scene, as it looked so ridiculous. Another funny scene was the one with the crocs playing the pipe organ, and then Medussa starts shooting the place down.

The songs were outstanding, and beautifully sung by Shelby Flint.” read more

"The main character of the film, Penny gets kidnapped, almost feed to pet crocodiles, and lowered into a deep dark pit, just so the films bad guy's can get some diamond that only the little girl can get at. Did I forget to mention, that the pit is so small, she could get easily trapped in there and never come back out?"
