"1.11. Take a subject matter as boring as ballet, add in old-school special effects and the art of editing and what you get is a world of fantasy. "

“Renowned director Martin Scorsese considers The Red Shoes as his all time favourite movie, and it isn't hard to see why. The Red Shoes I consider to be the ultimate dance film, and is absolutely beautiful in every sense. The cinematography is fabulous, and the choreography is dazzling. The screenplay is excellent, and as the lovers Anton Walbrook and Moira Shearer head the fantastic cast(including Marius Goring) and do an impeccable job at it. The music was just gorgeous, and this is coming from a classical music fan, very lyrical, and just exactly what a ballet score should be like. All in all, if you see the Red Shoes on television, I advise you to watch it, even if you don't like it at first. 10/10 Bethany Cox” read more

" Notes: For many years, I kept coming across those two names, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, and they were always referred as some of the best movie directors ever (Martin Scorsese, for example, is a huge fan) and, supposedly, the movies they made together represented the Golden Age of British cinema. After hearing all these, I started to watch all the movies they made together. This movie was the first one I saw and, so far, it is easily my favorite one. I mean, I'm not really into bal"

"“It’s one of the great films of all time on so many levels – just to look at if nothing else. It is so beautiful…. Moira Shearer with that red hair is spectacular in Technicolor…. I don’t think there’s a film that has ever influenced as many dancers as The Red Shoes.” -Robert Osborne “Never has a ballet been captured on film like this. You cannot take your eyes off it…. It isn’t only dancers . It’s anyone who has this dream to do something of the arts, because there is a"
"If you haven’t seen the 1948 cinematic eyesore "The Red Shoes," watch it immediately. This film directed by the dynamic Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger is a fantastical love letter to ballet done in Jean Cocteauean flourish. An aspiring ballerina Victoria Page (Moira Shearer) enlists in a contractual deal with producer Boris Lermontov (Anton Walbrook) to star in a variety of ballets, particularly the one called “The Red Shoes”. However, her dreams, dedications and ambitions crumble o"
