McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure - Sega Genesis and Mega Drive
This game is probably ranked highly for nostalgic reasons, but the level design definitely has an imaginative and innovative weirdness to it. It's probably under-appreciated because of the commercial characters. I should replay it.

Rayman Origins - PlayStation 3
I only recommend Rayman to skilled players if you're playing single player. Average gamers will have a fun, but not too frustrating challenge playing it in multiplayer. You should demo the game first to see if the game is too challenging.
