Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Tarantino's film-making niche is used excellently once again in 'Inglourious Basterds', arguably his best film to date. The pacing is nearly perfect, and it all adds up to a masterful conclusion.
The Cineast's rating:
The Vicious Kind (2009)
Adam Scott controlled this movie. His character was nearly perfect. The movie itself is good as well, and a well deserving spot on this list.
The Cineast's rating:
I Love You, Man (2009)
A very funny and uplifting comedy that will soon be on my shelves. Well worth it with great performances from both Segal and Rudd.
The Cineast's rating:
Crank 2: High Voltage (2009)
What can I say about this here movie?. Action, Action, Action, Action, Fun, Fun, Fun, Fun. That just about sums it up. One of the most entertaining films I have seen in awhile, and of course one of the best of 2009.
The Cineast's rating:
Observe and Report (2009)
I know, this movie wasn't exactly praised by everyone, but me being a huge Seth Rogen fan, I enjoyed it. He's funny in everything, and this is no exception.
The Cineast's rating:
Zombieland (2009)
Zombieland delivers on both laughs and action, while at the same time mesmerizing you with the characters, and really feeling for them. A solid movie, and a definite must buy.
The Cineast's rating:
The Boat That Rocked (2009)
The story is inspiring, great, and extremely fun to watch, including an excellent cast who all acted to near perfection. The Boat That Rocked (Pirate Radio), is one of the best films of 2009, and a sure guarantee to make your day.
The Cineast's rating:
This just may surpass it's predecessor. That may be saying a lot, however this one impressed me A LOT. You get the same three main characters, whom, in my opinion, are phenomenal actors. The story is actually more complex and thought provoking than 'Dragon Tattoo', in addition to providing more suspense throughout. Fair warning though: If you don't focus all of your energy on the movie, it just might become confusing, as there are tons of different, intertwining sub-plots and characters. Not to mention, its in Swedish.
The Cineast's rating:
Drag Me to Hell (2009)
One of those movies that you just can't forget, as it's so uniquely crafted, over-the-top and audaciously creepy. One of the best of '09.
The Cineast's rating:
Taken (2008)
Some of the best fight sequences you'll see anywhere, Liam Neeson is convincing enough, and the story brisks at a very fast pace. A VERY entertaining, manly movie.
The Cineast's rating:
Adventureland (2009)
This is one of those movies that makes you really think about your life. It's so uplifting and heartfelt, you just can't not like it. A very good teen comedy about life itself, and one of the best of 09.
The Cineast's rating:
The Loved Ones (2009)
A pretty normal plot with not a whole ton of new material, but one of the most intense and entertaining horror/thriller films, and pure movies of 2009.
The Cineast's rating:
Law Abiding Citizen (2009)
This movie kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish, packing enough suspense for all movie goers to enjoy. I was very impressed with the two lead roles. Very good flick.
The Cineast's rating:
Funny People (2009)
While I may not have cracked up many times, Funny People is still a solid comedy, with a whole lot of drama mixed in. I highly enjoyed it. By far one of the best of 09.
The Cineast's rating:
Blood and Bone (2009)
While this movie may not be an Oscar winner, it's still great in terms of a fighting/action film. Just sit back and enjoy yourself. Very impressive fight choreography as well. A well deserving spot.
The Cineast's rating:
Definitely not for anyone under the age of about 17 or 18, but Up in the air will please more mature audiences with it's genuine character development who are both fun and comedic, and it's excellent portrayal of life as a traveling businessman.
The Cineast's rating:
who'd ever think a fourth installment could have been so good? well it was, an I was very impressed. All the same characters are back, and there is a certain grittiness to it that I love. Well worth it, and soon to be on my DVD shelf.
