We teamed up with Bessemer Venture Partners for our latest founder dinner in NYC, this time diving deep into next-gen commerce. Here’s where our guests see commerce heading: 1️⃣ Marketplaces built their value on curation, sometimes specializing in price discounts or other niches. Those competitive advantages erode in a world where autonomous actions, like agent product discovery, become the norm. 2️⃣ Shopping interfaces and UX will need to reach a new paradigm to deliver truly seamless, delightful experiences. Whether via chat, voice, or entirely new interfaces that do not yet exist, next-generation agents will proactively anticipate users’ needs—eliminating friction and effort altogether. 3️⃣ More sophisticated search and recommendations are foundational for future commerce experiences. Commerce agents that aggregate information and serve it with low latency, with the right relevance, high accuracy, and perfect timing will define the new standard. 4️⃣ As AI floods feeds with machine-generated content, authentic, trusted human voices and original work become scarce and sought after, serving as valuable antidotes to algorithmic noise. To the founders who joined us: thank you for the candid conversations about building in uncharted territory. The future of commerce isn't just being talked about, it's being built by the people in that room. A homegrown CAD stablecoin is essential for strengthening Canada’s financial sovereignty and enabling the next generation of digital payment innovation. That's why Tetra Trust Company is partnering with leading fintech and financial institutions like Wealthsimple, Purpose Unlimited, Shakepay, ATB Financial, and National Bank of Canada to build one of the first CAD-denominated stablecoins issued by a regulated custodian. This brings security, transparency, and innovation to the Canadian digital asset ecosystem. Congratulations to the TetraTrust team. We’re excited to collaborate on shaping the financial infrastructure of tomorrow.
Stablecoins are reshaping payments and financial infrastructure worldwide, and Canada is next. Today, Tetra Digital Group announced plans to launch Canada’s first fiat-backed stablecoin, issued under a regulated framework, in early 2026 (subject to regulatory approval). The initiative is backed by a consortium of leaders across finance and fintech, and includes a $10M investment to strengthen Tetra’s position as Canada’s digital asset infrastructure provider- Urbana Corporation, Wealthsimple, Purpose Unlimited, Shakepay, ATB Financial, National Bank of Canada, and Shopify - working together to build trusted, homegrown financial infrastructure for payments, sending money abroad, and everyday commerce. AI is transforming how complex industries operate, and Augment is bringing that power to logistics – one of the most compelling and largely untapped opportunities. Augment is building AI agents for freight brokers, streamlining operations by automating high-volume, time-sensitive, and nuanced workflows. "Augie", its logistics AI agent, turns SOPs into fully-autonomous teammates that boost speed, cut costs, and improve reliability for the largest logistics enterprises. Shopify's vision of supercharging global commerce closely aligns with Augment’s aim to break down complexity and operational burdens, empowering merchants to ship quickly and cost-effectively. That’s why we’re excited to work with Harish Abbott again. As a proven, multi-time founder, he’s the leader to spearhead the next wave of AI innovation in the logistics space, starting from trucking brokerage, to beyond. Congrats to the Augment team on this milestone - we’re just getting started and looking forward to the journey ahead.
🚀 Big news at Augment: we’ve raised an $85M Series A, bringing total funding to $110M in just 5 months. 🧚 Why? Here’s how: 📞 Multi-modal: emails, calls, texts, Slack, Teams, browser tasks, APIs. 🚚 End-to-end ownership: across order-to-cash workflows including approvals, escalations (not just a voice bot or point tool) fully synced with TMS 💡 Smarter every day: builds the most dynamic knowledge base across structured + unstructured data. Logistics moves trillions every year, powered by relentless operators like Luis at Transportation One. They deserve a teammate who’s got their back. That’s Augie. Watch what Luis has to say! Tomorrow’s digital experiences will be multimodal: blending text, images, audio, and video in ways we’re only beginning to imagine. fal is building the foundation for this future. Their platform brings together high-performance infrastructure, instant access to top multimedia models, and an intuitive prototyping canvas, making it fast and easy for anyone to experiment, build, and launch new generative media experiences. We work with founders obsessed with turning hard problems into simple, fast, and delightful experiences. We hosted an intimate fireside chat with Chamath Palihapitiya, moderated by Farhan Thawar. No fluff, just substance. Here are three big ideas Chamath shared: 1️⃣ The AI gold rush isn't about bigger models. It's about surgical precision: smaller domain-specific models, custom silicon optimized for specific workloads, and rebuilding the entire compute stack from scratch. The performance gains at these intersections will be the biggest unlock in the next five years. 2️⃣ LLMs help, but the best builders understand the full physics of their craft. Today’s engineers need to know their stack all the way down—from fancy abstractions through compilation to what's actually happening on the silicon. This knowledge isn't optional anymore. 3️⃣ Founders should default to speaking up instead of calculating when to stay quiet. Over time, consistent outspokenness is likely to average out the risk while preserving the upside. Thanks to all the founders, funders and future-thinkers that joined us. Trading stories and sharing lessons with the brightest minds in AI, dev tooling, fintech, and commerce is a reminder that building the future is hard, but it's a lot more fun together.

Melio is taking the next step in their journey now as part of Xero, unlocking new opportunities for entrepreneurs to uplevel their financial toolkit. Matan Bar and Ilan Atias built a platform that undeniably empowers entrepreneurship. When we decided to partner with Melio, we quickly recognized their product’s technical elegance. Their API-first approach to payments created exactly what merchants needed: a seamless way to pay bills directly from their Shopify admin. This exit represents more than a successful outcome for their team and investors. It means expanded merchant access to tools that eliminate financial overhead, allowing them to allocate resources to building their businesses. Congrats, Melio team. We look forward to seeing what you build next as part of Xero.
🚀🚀🚀 I’m excited to share that Melio is being acquired by Xero, a global small business platform. Melio was founded on a simple belief: that paying and getting paid shouldn’t be a burden for small businesses. We set out to simplify the complex world of accounts payable and receivable, helping business owners save time and improve their cash flow. Staying true to that mission, Melio quickly became one of the most innovative fintech companies in the world. Today, we process tens of billions of dollars in payments every year for businesses that pay or get paid by our solutions, along with thousands of accounting firms. Now, we're taking that mission even further by joining forces with Xero. Together, Melio’s simple and smart financial tools and Xero’s powerful cloud accounting platform will create a seamlessly integrated experience, giving small businesses and their advisors everything they need to succeed. Melio will also continue to operate independently, supporting all businesses in the U.S.—no matter which accounting software or ERP they use. Melio remains fully committed to serving its customers. We’re deeply grateful to our customers, partners, and the accounting community who have supported Melio’s journey so far. Your trust, feedback, and collaboration have shaped the product we’ve built and the mission we continue to pursue. https://lnkd.in/d45ceESK

The search game has changed—consumers are getting instant answers directly in the prompt window instead of clicking through pages of blue links. We're seeing this firsthand through our recent partnerships with AI search platforms. To help founders win in this new landscape, we’re open sourcing our practical strategies for founders from Edson Lai’s and Jane Lee’s investment deep dive on Generative Engine Optimization, along with insights from niree noel, Shopify’s Director of Content, in her recent SEO strategies for the AI era advisory session for our portfolio. Ready to outpace the competition in the new search landscape? Dive in and get ahead ⬇️
Search has evolved. Consumers now expect instant answers rather than sifting through pages of ads and URLs. This shift in behaviour is fundamentally changing how we discover, research, and buy online. There are new rules to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). The rise of GEO means brands must shift focus from traditional SEO tactics like optimizing keywords and clicks, to building authority and trustworthiness for AI-driven discovery. We sat down with niree noel and Amanda Cruz-Lombraña from Shopify's Search and Content team and other early-adopters to hear how they’re adapting and what their best practices are. We at Shopify Ventures have seen a wave of new tools such as Bluefish AI, Evertune AI, Profound, and Scrunch AI emerge that enable brands to monitor, influence, and optimize how LLMs perceive and represent them. We believe that best-in-class solutions go beyond basic prompt tracking and sentiment analysis. If you're a founder building for this long-term future of GEO, Jane Lee and I would love to chat!
