Congratulations to Dr. Geoffrey Fong on receiving the King Charles III Coronation Medal! 🧡 Dr. Fong is the world’s most productive tobacco researcher, with more than 580 scientific articles. Through his innovative research evaluating policy impact, including equity and environmental impacts, his efforts to communicate ITC findings to governments and international health organizations have strengthened policies to reduce tobacco use globally. Fong has received more than 20 awards and honours, including the Governor General’s Innovation Award, and appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada. Fong will be inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame in June.

Congratulations to the following members of the #UWaterlooCommunity: ▪️ Dr. Vivek Goel – President and Vice-Chancellor A visionary leader in public health and post-secondary education, Dr. Goel has shaped the future of public health through three decades of leadership at world-renowned universities and public health agencies. ▪️ Dr. Blair Feltmate – Faculty of Environment As co-founder and head of the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation, Dr. Feltmate has dedicated his career to developing solutions that mitigate the risks of extreme weather. ▪️ Dr. Geoffrey Fong – Faculty of Arts & Faculty of Health A world-renowned public health researcher, Dr. Fong founded the International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation (ITC) Project, leading efforts in 31 countries to assess and strengthen tobacco control policies. ▪️ Elder Myeengun Henry, LL.d (H.C), King Charles III medal – Faculty of Health A respected Indigenous Knowledge Keeper, Elder Henry has been instrumental in advancing Indigenization and decolonization at #UWaterloo. ▪️ Dr. Philippe Van Cappellen – Faculty of Science An expert in eco-hydrology and freshwater sustainability, Dr. Van Cappellen is a Canada Excellence Research Chair Laureate whose work is shaping the future of water security.
