Rank chart in tableau

Tableau is a data visualization tool that helps in a better understanding of data. Rank function is a part of Table functions in Tableau. Rank function as the name suggests is used to give the rank to any measure (number related) present in the data set. The Rank function accepts two arguments, first- aggregated measure (or an expression), second- ranking order (ascending, or descending). Here the second argument is optional, and by default, it assigned as descending. The function will assign the same rank to an identical value.

From this chart we can clearly see which country has the highest number of cases and which has the least number of cases. As we can see here, United States ranks first followed by India and other countries accordingly. The rank chart is used here to give us a better visual illustration of the position of a particular country. With this data, we can determine the countries that is most and least affected by Covid-19 pandemic.

  •  This will be very helpful when we are using the chart to tell the details about which category or region the sales are at best.
  • A rank chart is used to visualize products, for instance, by ranking the sales volume of a particular company.
  • A rank function can be useful for analyzing campaigns by detecting the fluctuations in ranking for various products. It can be used to track when a new product has cannibalized the old product.
