Mezcal: originating from the náhuatl mexcalli (maguey cocido), or “cooked agave”

Creating community through mezcal tasting + educational events

The maguey (Spanish for agave, one of the oldest cultivated plants in North America) played a significant spiritual, political, economic and social role in the ancient Aztec empire. The importance of this plant in daily life is still seen in modern day Mexico with the production of mezcal.

Just Maguey aims to create community through mezcal dinners and tasting events. Guests from all backgrounds are brought together to learn about one of the most artisanal spirits in the world, still handcrafted in small batches, and appreciate the complexities of mezcal culture. This is currently happening with two event series: Mujeres por el Mezcal (women-only) and Amigos por el Mezcal (all are welcome).
