The Museum of Science & History is known as the place to find new and different interactive experiences that appeal to all ages.
The latest feature exhibit, “Strange Matter,” is offered in Jacksonville for the first time.
The exhibit was designed at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto. The presentation at MOSH, scheduled through May 13, is the latest stop on a North American tour that began in 2003.
The interactive stations are all about discovering properties of different materials, technically referred to as “materials science.”
There’s another description that’s more accessible.
”It’s the science of stuff and what things are made of,” said MOSH Curator Christy Leonard.
The international flavor of the exhibit extends beyond where it originated. Leonard said “Strange Matter,” with its introductions and explanations at each station in English and French, is the first bilingual exhibit presented at the museum.
In addition to the touring exhibit, there also are some of the more popular elements from MOSH’s “Universe of Science” exhibition.
“The stations that make the most noise usually get the most attention,” said Leonard.
She said the museum staff expects more visitors than usual Friday because school is not in session and it’s a holiday weekend. Admission is $5 and the museum is open until 8 p.m.
In honor of the “Black Friday” kickoff of the holiday retail season, the museum store is offering a 40 percent discount on books and DVDs.
