The macroarea CAMEO (Climate and Meteorology, modelling and Earth Observation) aims to understand past and future global climate changes in the Earth system and the fundamental atmospheric processes that affect them, from climatic variability and trends to individual meteorological events, from global to local scale, through an integrated approach.
This perspective requires to develop advanced observational tools and methodologies, to integrate high-quality observations to reconstruct historical series, and to use a wide range of modeling tools, from simple conceptual or process models to complex state-of-the-art numerical weather prediction and "Earth system” fully-coupled models.
Impact of natural and anthropogenic events on human environment, health and cultural heritage. Application-driven research
The science focus in this ISAC macroarea is the study of atmospheric composition change, with concern of gaseous and aerosol compounds exerting a climate forcing effect and/or of relevance for air quality. State-of-the-art experimental and modelling tools are employed to study the sources, dispersion and transformations of aerosols and gases (including water vapor) and exploring their sources, dispersion and transformations in the atmosphere, from the planetary boundary layer to the upper atmosphere, and from the local to the global scale.
