Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
This will age like wine
Boring at times, yes
too long, yes
at the same time
Incredibly emotionally gripping cinematic masterpiece that
brings to light a mostly forgotten piece of history.
Also it was a complete twist on the "western" format, might even be Scorseses attempt at a historical conclusion to the format entirely. This film will change things and will as so many others only become more cherished in the future.
The cinematography provides some scenes which pull forth an ancient tribal feeling, a connection with the surroundings that seems completely lost in other movies that make an attempt at it.
In most films love seems to be about romance and the solution to problems. Here it is portrayed as ideal yet cursed. It leaves the viewer feeling hollow and bewildered.
Deniro as the bad guy did not invoke any sympathy: also rare in current cinema. He was simply a monster from the first second to the last. Personally it was refreshing to see a bad guy without any backstory, remorse or exceptional "coolness".
This is a masterpiece. A very speciel one.
El silencio (2023)
Exceeded all expectations
Went in to watch some drama while sick on the couch. Turns out this was actually a massively surprising case study about a fictional psychopath or not psychopath (no spoilers) This show starts out lowering your expectations to zero. Then builds up until the rather surprising ending. Was I tired or did i massively underestimate how much thought went i to this little netflix gem, but as a result I got tricked by the show multiple times. Open minded and self diciplined (in not predicting thing) viewers might very well enjoy this program. I recommend to all people who do not care about perfect realism in a TV program. Especially in one not meant to be all that real. I took it as a play and enjoyed it immensely. The cinematography was at times also completely spot on, amazing even. Soap opera scenes not so much.
Overrated this to 8 stars just to boost the score. Solid 6-7 in reality.
Kampen om Narvik (2022)
A semi confused piece of fine storytelling.
Well, about time a movie came out with some information about what happened to women who had willing or unwilling relationships with the Germans in Norway! NO, this is not it. The plot is split in two, yet only one gets an ending. The story about betraying ones country to save a child is very catching, moving, realistic but the ending is unsuccessfull at portraying the truth. Many of the women who slept/cooperated with the germans were actually relocated TO Germany after the war. Thrown out from their own country. And the other story, about a brave soldier got it's happy ending. What I gathered from this is that as long as you kill the bad guys or save your son by killing the good guys you live happily ever after. In reality this was not the case. Both husband and wife would most likely have suffered a tragic faith, one killed by the Germans and the other sent away to Germany or being made an outcast for the rest of her life. Her son would suffer the same faith as countless Norwegians still hold these stupid grudges till this day.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor (2022)
Extremely dissapointing
The action was incredibly stupid. I couldn't take a minute of it seriously.
It all began with Boba and Mando using their jetpacks. In stead of gaining a tactical position, the expert fighter and jetpack equipped mandalorians aquired the low ground Anakin style. Then the pykes managed not to hit one of the armourless areas on either of them. The droids were spotted by mando who didn't even think to move away from the piece of easily destructible garbage they were hiding behind, just some cringe-worthy lines could be delivered as the battle droids repeatedly fail to hit the craft and shoot the wall. (B1 droids were far more accurate)
The action is illogical beyond belief. In the prequels we mostly saw jedi fighting. They could stand in open ground- if a shot came towards them they could deflect it. I think the director failed to understand that not all star wars characters use the force. The Pykes just stand like droids in the middle of the street, as do the good guys. I guess the Trandoshians were right to try and kill a gladiator wookie with knives if blasters truly have the accuracy of a
The rest of my bickering comes as a list:
1. The life-time bounty hunters do not understand shields.
2. The pykes fail to hit anyone important to the story yet they could easily kill for example the punk band hiding behind low cover from their rooftop positions if they moved a couple of meters.
3. The ship lady is completely oblivious to the loud explosions happening and just arrives in comical fashion (I did not laugh).
4. In stead of destroying the droid mando just sits on top of it. He is usually fast right? But I guess the next stupid joke was more important.
5. The rancor and boba just dissapear and leave mando to die.
6. Grogu didn't try to save mando. He just wanted a new toy. HAHA so funny (did not laugh)
7. Blasters seem to only be usable from a distance of 5 meters as the pykes have repeatedly confirmed.
8. Boba kills Cad Bane. In stead of a moment to contemplate on this event there are a whole bunch of flashy cuts for absolutely no reason. Boba does't care about his old mentor dying even one bit yet he is a complete saint now.
9. In the end it shows Fennec solo killing all the pykes and gang leaders with considerable ease. Are the pykes even dangerous? I thought so, but it seems they are pretty much harmless and clumsy.
10. Many more.
I was really looking forward to this episode and it kind of makes me sad that even though i tried I just couldn't enjoy it like the rest of the season.
TLDR:
Boba has turned into a gentle little princess, mando has a gifted child (who should have been trained by Luke and given the vest later so he could have survived Kylo Ren) and Tatooine is now a set for a sphagetti western.
No Time to Die (2021)
This was the only way it could ever end
It was an ending. A good ending for Bond's life (Craig's Bond). The visuals and action were perhaps a bit underwhelming but concluding the character was done with extreme skill and great thought.
Top Gun (1986)
Inaccurate, inconsistent, meaningless garbage.
The dogfight scenes are unbearable-what looks like literal stock footage was used. Why even try to make it IRL, when the dogfights look extremely lacking and boring beyond belief. Seeing a plane firing a sidewinder in a turn yet then it cuts to stock footage of the F-14 firing a missile test completely horizontally ,while not turning, multiple times really got on my nerves . Tom Cruise is a bad actor and therefore constantly looks like this entire film is a joke to him. In stead of his friend actually dying due to his ignorance and idiocy the plane just drops dead. Even though he has no blame for his friends death yet still goes around like he just killed a man and is trying to hide it. If he actually would have been to blame for Gooses death the movie would have meaning but as it is, it has no emotional value at ALL and even Gooses wife is pretty chill with her husbands death. No story arc exists here and the action part of the movie looks crap. The only good thing about this movie is Charlie.
The Durrells: Episode #4.1 (2019)
good episode as usual
The historical aspects of this time period are naturally political. It was solid as usual.
