Sanyanggaedeul (2023)
Very entertaining
A great action movie with all the needed ingredients to spend a good time: simple yet compelling plot, likable and relatable characters, good balance between fantastic action scenes and good humour. I wasn't expecting anything special when I started it but ended up pleasantly surprised!
I really enjoyed it from start to end. I saw some comments saying that it went down the hill towards the end, but I thought that the series kept constantly its good quality.
I think that the heartwarming bromance was well depicted and was the key element that made Bloodhounds so good to watch. The main leads are great at their roles, with obvious chemistry shown all along.
Gil Bok-soon (2023)
It's missing a climax
Some action scenes are good and the acting is overall not too bad, but the story is definitely missing an important climax in a movie that is way too long. We are expecting edges and thrill but got none.
It feels like the director started something promising and suddenly could not wait to finish it as soon as possible, leaving the viewers disappointed and frustrated.
I also think that the main character of Gil Boksoon was miscast. Although Jeon Do Yeon is a talented actress, this kind of role was not a convincing fit at all.
All in all, it's a bit of a waste of time and a disappointing movie which offers more style over substance.
Gudetama: Haha o tazunete donkusai (2022)
Brilliant
A cynical, very blasé egg yolk and an optimistic and goal-oriented chick (who is insanely cute) go on a thrilling adventure to find their mom.
I was surprised by the humour, quite sarcastic and cynical, that will delight adult watchers, as well as
the deep, existential topics discussed. I was not expecting to be touched and question my own existence by this kind of animation, but here we are and what a pleasure! It's dark at time, humorous, a bit weird and definitely an excellent watch.
The visuals are truly stunning, kudos to the animators, and Gudetama's and Shakipiyo's voices are perfect.
I would love to see a season 2!
Narco-saints (2022)
Great suspense and acting
Once you pass the 1st episode which is a bit too long (but helpful to understand the main character's personality and motivation) the series gets better and better with a great finale which keeps you on the edge of your seat for 60 minutes. The 6 episodes format is perfect as it allows to develop the story enough while being crisp at the same time.
The story is well built and well paced, the acting very good - not surprising as the show features some top actors from the Korean movie.
Hwang Jung Min nails it as per usual in his role as the ruthless, devilish drug king and finds perfect chemistry with Ha Jung Woo who is equally impressive in this guy-next-door-turned-hero.
Great suspense and action, a must watch for fans of the genre!
Partner Track (2022)
Cringy brain dump with bad acting
The story is not that bad, quite a stereotypical story about ruthless lawyers and quite predictable, but my god the acting is beyond terrible especially Arden Cho's. Apparently the only thing she is capable of doing is sighing, give falsely intense stares and doing a lot of fake smiles (even when the smiles are supposed to be authentic..). The supporting cast (her office friends) was a bit better but could not save the show.
And don't get me started on the music. Felt like a bad teenage soap and made the whole thing even more cringy.
It really spoilt the whole experience and that's a shame because it is enjoyable to see Asian female leads for once.
Watch it without any expectation, it's an average brain dump for when you are exceedingly bored.
Gossip Girl (2007)
Things were different 14 years ago
I used to love this show when it was released. All the glam and glitz of the rich, young and beautiful was highly enjoyable and addictive. I still have a fond memory of that time but man you've got to admit that times have changed... I doubt that this set of highly unrealistic characters, environment and situation would appeal to audiences today. Things have changed, with more inclusivity and realistic struggles depicted, and thank god for that.
Nae-bu-ja-deul (2015)
One of the best Korean movies
The story is simple yet riveting, the acting superb and the overall flow is so smooth you don't feel the hours pass. The balance between thriller ingredients and elements of dark humor makes the experience very pleasant. It's a must watch if you like Korean movies!
Daman akeseo guhasoseo (2020)
Entertaining but a lot of plot holes
It's a very entertaining action flick with the right dose of suspense and violence. However I was quite annoyed by the high numbers of plot holes all along the movie. The director is definitely not very regarding when it comes to details and that killed a little bit the overall credibility. Acting is good and convincing.
The Last Letter from Your Lover (2021)
Pure waste of time
The awful lack of chemistry between the characters destroyed the whole story. We never understand how and why any of the two romances start and as the movie goes on we are not sure if we even want to know. I was expecting a heart-fluttering romance, what a disappointment and a waste of two precious hours...
The Dig (2021)
Beautiful and emotional
Very well made movie with deeply touching characters. Excellent cast, especially Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan who both offer a well-balanced performance. This made me want to read the novel by John Preston.
Emma. (2020)
Beautiful but weird
An eye-candy for its gorgeous costumes and sets, but the way the story is told is not very smooth and if you haven't read the book by Austen, I am sure you will feel quite lost. And what's going on with the acting? All the characters act so weird, in a rigid pompous way that I couldn't help but wondering if this was intentional or not.
Last Christmas (2019)
I would have preferred a classic Christmas romance
It's very unclear whether the movie is a romantic comedy, a drama or just a mumbo jumbo of everything badly mixed. And it's shocking to see near to zero chemistry between the two protagonists and I found it quite hard to feel any sympathy for the main character who displays quite unrealistic personal traits...
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Chess is sexy
Probably one of the best limited series I have watched on Netflix, along with Unbelievable and Alias Grace. The aesthetic is superb, the story riveting, the acting on point. The hour that each episode lasts runs so smoothly, it's a true pleasure. Even if you don't know anything about chess you cannot help being obsessed by it, just like Beth is. And you end up being convinced that chess is the sexiest game ever created. Who knew!
Rebecca (2020)
Boring and unfaithful to the book's quality
The ending is a mess, the acting unconvincing and overall it's a big waste of time. Just read the novel, don't watch this boring "adaptation" which doesn't do justice to the mystery, suspense and subtlety of the original story.
