The Lost Daughter (2021)
Awful, pretentious
No discernible plot. But plenty of boring
characters. Thank goodness for the subtitles or I might not have realised that there were flashbacks to young Leda.
Full of 'meaningful symbols' such as orange peel like a snake, dolls, and poetry translation, which were irritating, distracting and ultimately meaningless.
A waste of an evening.
Too Close (2021)
Misery inducing
The acting is brilliant. Just a shame the main characters are all miserable with miserable lives and the plot grinds ridiculously slowly, resulting in a programme that is unwatchable and just not entertaining.
The Trench (1999)
Watchable
One of those movies where you spend more time spotting actors than you do on the plot (omg Danny Dyer looks so young, and wasn't HE in Eastenders too, and that's the bloke off Peaky Blinders).
Some tense, gory or miserable scenes.
Passchendaele (2008)
Disappointing
From the title, you'd understandably expect this to be a WW1 war film based in Europe. Turns out it's a made-for-TV Sunday afternoon romance set in mostly Canada.
1917 (2019)
Beautiful
Looks beautiful, and is a wonderful film to watch. Sadly the second half loses its way and the style turns into something more like a video game.
The Revenant (2015)
Hard work
Visually the 'video game' style camera work was nauseous.
The speech was difficult to distinguish. The idea that anyone could survive that bear attack was so silly.
Struggled to watch it for half an hour or so then gave it up.
Green Wing (2004)
Dated and repetitive
This was funny when I first watched in 2004 or so. But it hasn't stood the test of time. Each episode features the characters goofing about and having inadequate relationships. No real plot. The frequent musicaly speeded up sections are jarring. Watch Friday Night Dinner instead.
Deep Water (2019)
Watchable drivel
Ignore the plot holes and tedious characters. Enjoy the lake district scenery.
