Gladiator II (2024)
I had low expectations, but even that didn't help.
Some thoughts about this film:
CONS
The writing felt very rushed even though the film clocks in at almost 2 hours and 30 minutes.
In many scenes the dialogue felt rough and forced. There was way too much exposition through dialogue. I think it's important as a writer to let the audience come to conclusions themselves sometimes and not write too much ''on the nose''-dialogue.
The acting was off, at times it felt as if you were watching live theatre.
The CGI was not the best and the shark scene in the Colosseum had videogame graphics which takes you out of the movie entirely.
Now enough about the cons.
PROS
It felt like Denzel really tried his best to have fun and lift the movie as much as he could. Even though his acting could be theatrical at times he was easily ahead of the cast in terms of acting.
Continuing on acting: Alexander Karim who plays the doctor that patches Lucius up also showed strong acting skills, he was the kind of supporting character that catches your eye (in a good way).
Some of the wide shots were done beautifully. I just wished they used more of them.
These were just some initial thoughts after a first viewing.
Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 (2024)
Solid western
Solid western film for those who like this genre (like myself).
Kevin Costner is no stranger to western films/series and Horizon proves it.
Standouts/pros: There are some seriously fantastic shots in this film.
I liked the fact that they show the brutality in which both sides (both sides being the settlers and the indigenous people) bring to the table. Would like to see more interaction between the indigenous and the settlers.
The buildup in a handful of the scenes create an amazing sensation of tension. As an example: The scene where Russell (the kid) wants to buy the two handguns and ends up in a ''fake'' standoff with the indigenous man. Even though some would say that the scene isn't needed and that it amounted to nothing, I didn't get a unsatisfactory feeling watching it.
Solid acting from Costner, Beavers and Bowers. Georgia MacPhail has a solid feature film debut aswell!
Cons: It's slightly overspread. It feels like Costner tried to juggle a few too many storylines in a single film, which could work in some cases but it didn't work to its full potential here. I didn't feel emotionally connected to most of the characters even though the acting was good.
I think one way to fix this could've been, even though I don't like this new era of turning everything in to TV series, is doing just that. This could've worked well as a limited series of maybe 4-6 episodes.
On that note, it is a solid western film and definitely worth a watch. I will for sure watch chapter 2 in the cinemas.
Chuck (2007)
Pure nostalgia in 2022
I remember when I was a kid, maybe around 9 or 10 during the first seasons of the show, I used to wake up every morning in Malmö, my hometown in Sweden and watch Chuck. I remember it being some of the best things I've watched. I decided to revisit the old show some 15 years after the first season aired and it still holds up. I remember watching episode 10, season 1 and No one's gonna love you by Band of Horses started playing, and for a moment, just a small moment my eyes started filling up with tears. I started to remember the good old days when I was a little kid watching this show, when things were much simpler.
It's safe to say this show still holds up and if you haven't watched it yet, I would highly recommend you do if you enjoy proper comedy/action!
1883 (2021)
Did not know this was a prequel to the show Yellowstone.
I just finished episode two as I realized it says ''A yellowstone origin story''. Safe to say you dont need to watch Yellowstone that stars Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly and many more talented actors to understand what ''1883'' is about. But man oh man this show is so good! I highly recommend this show to anyone who likes western movies/shows or if you enjoyed playing Read Dead Redemption! ;)
Beautifully narrated throughout the show and amazing visuals and camerawork.
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
Been playing League for the past 10+ years.
For years league of legends fans all around the world have tried to get Riot Games to actually make something like a full length movie or a TV series.
By the time im writing this I've watched the first three episodes and I can say that my expectations weren't just met they were blown away. This is my first ever review on IMDB and it is so worth it.
This show is simply put, amazing.
The character building is already leading up to being beautifully done, the action sequences are really sick and the animation is so, so, so good.
Im trying to find cons to write about this show but in my utmost honest opinion for the first three episodes I really can't find any, will have to see the remaining six episodes to develop a full review.
Another great thing about this show is also that you don't need to be a League ''fan'' or a League of Legends player to watch it. It's a great show that almost anyone could watch and enjoy.
