It was somebody's bright deal to remake this series.
It was first made many years ago.
I quite like this it looks good and is well cast.
But it is slow and lacks historical feeling.
Characters use expressions which were not used in late 1970s.
I was 18 in 1978.
Tonight's episode Devices and Desires someone is described as a paramedic and someone else is described as management team.
Nobody used the term para medic in 1979 UK.
I would bet my life on that.
The whole 1970s atmosphere seems wrong to me.
I bet great care was taken with wardrobe and props but this is pointless if people are going to use words they would not have used.
I don't want to be too critical of this drama because I do like but it is really slow and it is hard to care about the plots or characters.
Tonight's episode is set around a nuclear power station and the safety issues.
As it happens I live near enough to a station built about this time and remember the arguments both ways.
The anti people in this are not hippy enough and the scientists are not geeky enough.
It may be that the Thatcher government always planned to expand nuclear power but it wasn't until Feb 1981 that these plans were leaked to the press.
The government's idea was that people in lab coats were a lot less likely to go on strike than miners or train drivers.
It had nothing to do with the environment.
So if you have never seen this give it a shot but it doesn't exactly grip the viewer.
