Blue Beetle (2023)
A great leap in the right direction for DC and Latin representation
Blue Beetle an A+ movie made 20 years too late. For a superhero just as old as Batman, this should've been made sooner! Glad to have it now in the era of representation. Only hindrance is Marvel did it first. Nonetheless, I just saw it twice in English and in Spanish! Representation matters!
I knew this was giving me Black Panther vibes, and I cried just as much too. The films only quirk is you see elements from other heroes timelines. A little bit of Iron Man, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Black Panther. A lot of deja vu, but still a great film. The Spanish representation is really present with icons inserted throughout the film: Don Francisco, El Chapulín Colorado, Cheech & Chong, Thalia, Selena, a soundtrack of popular latin singers and a classic telenovela that made both audiences laugh.
It's nice to see the DC Easter Eggs throughout the film as well. A little bit of Batman, Flash, and Superman sprinkled in for fun. Blue Beetle is a great start to the continued new DCverse that Gunn is about to reboot.
So Blue Beetle gets a 9 out of 10! That emotional climax really got me. I cried both times! Also yes he's a Mexican superhero, but he lives in Florida... except his neighborhood is obviously in Puerto Rico, another thing that brought me to tears! I highly recommend this feature film, clearly having seen it twice! Back to back viewings... I think that's a first!
Betty White: A Celebration (2022)
Please give this 10 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is the only acceptable score, that it receive 100% on her 100th birthday! The tears and laughter are plentiful, bring the tissues.
Stay for the show after the credits too! XOXO!!!
Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
Dexter: New Blood Finale... Do The Math!
Why? Who let the Insurrectionists have Wi-Fi?
Explain to me how this show was rated superb up until the finale. As of this writing Dexter New Blood finale is a 4.6 and Dexter (2013) series finale is 4.6. Now go back and watch both. Which is worse?
A "4" (in my opinion) for a finale is something you watch all the way through and instantly regret. Examples according to the Ughs heard around the world:
1. GoT 2. HIMYM 3. Dexter (2013) 4. LOST
5. The Sopranos
A "10" (in my opinion) for a finale is something that brings out a reaction. A laugh, a cry, a scream at your tv screen when you realize there are only 10 minutes left in the episode. Then, came the appreciation to the writers who fixed Dexter Morgan's legacy.
It was perfect and in the top 40 finales of all time.
IMO! I'm convinced after reading a few that one stars didn't watch the entire show so 5,306 one stars (44%) are fake.
5,306/6458 is 82% from the fans
A 97% for the entire season from myself!
Klaus (2019)
Instant Classic
If this movie doesn't make you cry you're getting coal in your stocking for Christmas. Netflix knocks it out of the park in this Instant Christmas Classic. You will laugh, you will smile so hard your cheeks hurt, then you'll tear up from the genuine feels this movie gives you.
Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
A Lot of Razzle Dazzle, Sadly Not a Classic
Perhaps it's being a child who watched the original "Mary Poppins" hundreds of times, that left me with such high expectations. Not even an hour has passed since I left the theater, and I can not recall a full lyric from any song. The movie as a whole felt so forced. Who exactly was the target audience? I expected a great musical from the director of a previously great musical "Chicago", but nothing stuck.
Bits and pieces were amazing though: Emily Blunt's performance was superb, the child actors were adequately adorable, and the cameos left smiles on everyone's faces. It's just the fact that this is a continuation of a classic.
If anyone told me they watched this movie dozens of times my only question would be "Why?" Years from now no one will be singing "Nowhere to Go But Up" like my childhood was joyfully flooded with "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious".
Avatar (2009)
A visually astounding movie and a great live-action remake
A beautiful feast for the eyes, but the story has been seen multiple times. Many state this is a cross between Star Wars and Pocahontas. In actuality it is a live action version of Ferngully. Swap the faeries for aliens and the goal of the movie is to protect a tree in both movies.
Searching (2018)
Edge of Your Seat Thriller
It's the number of people sitting at the edge of their seat that makes the score a 10/10. It's like riding a rollercoaster whose incline never ceased. Your pulse is pounding and it's well worth the ending, which no one in my group figured out.
The father daughter relationship felt so genuine. The dad humor was on point, and when things got serious it felt real. It was like "Taken", but if it happened in real life. Google search the hell out of your daughter's life to find her.
Kin (2018)
Hyped up trailer, snoozer of a film
All the excitement comes on too early in the film, and I saw it in IMAX. It felt like a TV movie that was given a push to theatrical release. It dragged on far too long to the point that I fell asleep, woke up, and hadn't missed the finale surprise. Wasn't the only one either by the looks and stretchers of the audience.
