How to Die Alone (2024)
On the Rise
I loved, loved, loved Natasha in insecure. This was the show that introduced me to her talent and personality. I liked her right off the bat as the fun and funny side kick. I followed her right over to White Lotus season one. Her talent continued to show forth. I expected them to re-prize her in some form or fashion in season two, which left me disappointed. I was so glad to see her return to my TV screen on this show, and it did not disappoint. She bought the humor only as she could. I loved the entire cast of mostly unknowns. Each held their own, from the brother, mother, neighbors, and coworkers. I hope to see a seasons 2.
From Scratch (2022)
For my helpless romantic
I was intrigued by the trailer it immediately began watching. I was instantly enthralled by this by this cloying romantic drama but captivated by its charm. I love the theme and all the characters. I was surprised by the melancholic turn of events. In the end I was glad to see people overcome their prejudice, culture, and even ignorance, realizing that life is brief and that we all want to feel connected. Embracing love helps us cross the barriers, realizing we are mor alike than different. It definitely made this black woman want to visit Italy to taste the cuisine, experience the culture, and see the beautiful landscape.
Cheaper by the Dozen (2022)
Not a remake, but if we re-imagined
I generally rate movies and don't usually write reviews. However, I'm seeing way too many negative reviews that poo poo on what was an enjoyable and fun movie during incredibly tempestuous times. Not to mention the negative reviews seems like they come from racist haters who believe the lie that critical race theory is being taught at the grade school level.
I am a fan of Steve Martin and enjoyed the original movie. However, I started this movie knowing it was a modern and fresh take on the original. This should have been obvious from the fact that they were an interracial couple. This movie shows what a blended family could look like today with modern issues. It wasn't all about being woke and racial tolerance. It wasn't even a fifth of the movie, just the black wife's experience. The dialogue between the two husbands dealt with racial differences, not racism. The movie dealt with multi layered issues. To leave out the challenges of being a interracial couple in this movie would've been irresponsible. Perhaps, for you negative Nancys and Nathans, a different title would have served you better.
This movie had all the attributes of a great pilot for a series.
