Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Should have been a series
They have tried to force several stories into a couple of movies that just doesn't work, all told in flashbacks that bring nothing to the story, we didn't need to know about ever characters back story, it just gets boring, its lazy from Snyder and I usually like his stuff, but this should have been Netflix series if they wanted to develop all the characters in such ways, the action scenes are good and the visuals are stunning at times as you would expect from a big budget Netflix movie, I just don't know how they keep getting it so wrong, surely someone at Netflix must watch these and opine that they are just not good enough, if you sent to the movie to see this you would be gutted.
Hidden Strike (2023)
Not good enough for Movie night
This is not a thought provoking action drama by any stretch of your imagination, it's dialogue is laboured and uninspired, the acting is typical of the genre and the storyline in formulaic
John Cena Jackie Chan have no real chemistry and it comes across as forced rather than natural,
The special effects are so poor they're funny, the hand to hand fight scenes are well choreographed but the gun battles are outrageous lots of bullets but seemingly nobody is shot very often, it's ok if your just killing time one afternoon when the cricket is rained off but I wouldn't put time aside as a plan to watch it on Movie night you would be very disappointed.
The Chemistry of Death (2023)
Really Interesting
This is a great concept and makes for interesting viewing, the acting is good and the background character is well thought out.
It's good see an adaptation of the book and great to see Harry Treadway as a leading role, this could have been slow and miserable but it's got a great pace, the only thing I'm getting a bit fed up with is the constant flashbacks, I understand he's a tortured soul.
Sam Anderson plays the detective and is really good, the last time I saw him was in Doctor Who and I expected to see him in a lot more following that.
A great start I hope it keeps up this level of entertainment looking forward to the next instalment.
The Last of Us (2023)
At last
At last a show based on a game that's actually extremely good, from the story starting I just knew whoever wrote the screenplay knew what they were doing, gets you invested from the start, this is my favourite series of games on the PlayStation and I was hoping it could be brought to life on the small screen and I am not dissatisfied or disappointed, the character's are so well rounded and embody the games characters, it started with a bang and had just continued in the same vein
The actors are well chosen Pedro as Joel blows me away,I was concerned about the casting of Bella Ramsey as Ellie but she's smashing it.
This is the first TV series I have looked forward to on a weekly basis for years.
The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022)
So what's up
This is not a review based on the other reviews placed here that look pretty similar, it's an enjoyable tale, the cast are strong and the effects are ok, it's not The Witcher which I think is most peoples issue, it's a limited series which makes it difficult to connect to the characters but they are meant to be short lived but the dwarf character is great, there's gaps in the story but you would need an origin of an origin to make any sense of it.
The ending is terrible and bears no sense in the story that comes afterwards on the Witcher but I suppose they wanted a bit of extra drama, all in all worth watching if you want a few hours of fantasy.
The Man Who Fell to Earth (2022)
Outstanding
This is so good, extremely well acted with a great cast, it's funny at times, sad at times and scary at times, very well written with the magic. Of Kirtzman sprinkled liberally,Chiwetel Ejiofor is excellent and plays a difficult role so well ably supported by Naomi Harris who absolutely shines in this, a comedic touch by Rob Delaney should not go unnoticed either.
The story is engaging and poignant and keeps one engaged from start to finish, the quirks of the alien only lend themselves to making his character development even more engaging.
It's got everything you need in a science fiction show, aliens, corrupt companies and underhand government forces, keep watching you'll love it.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Tries too hard to be funny
This is the worse in the series by a long way, it's trying to be funny all the time and just ends up being corny and annoying, Christian Bale stands out like a beacon his character is dark and he has a presence on screen that's not shallow.
The effects are on point as always with these movies but again overdone to an extent that was not required and seemed to act as a filler for the lack of story
You have to wait a long while before the movie actually gets going and by that time you might have switched off and gone to watch something more entertaining as there is no great pay off by staying to the end.
Samaritan (2022)
Formulaic Fun and Games
I enjoyed this movie for some reason, it's fun, Stallone is great as the ageing superhero, it's very formulaic and you can pretty much guess what's going to happen along the way but if you suspend your disbelief it's just a popcorn and fizzy drinks kind of movie.
Don't expect Marvel budget special effects and just enjoy it for what it is.
Stallone played a great character, he is tortured but not miserable like so many of this genre, you need to forget that he is almost 80 and just go with it
it's not a light fluffy movie with lots of good action scenes, the whole movie has a kind of 80's vibe.
Magnum P.I. (2018)
Nothing to hate it's ok
It's a bit Woke but it's fine, quite entertaining with good characters, it's a bit OTT with the Army heartstrings.
This is not a remake as such it's a reimagined version of Magnum, it's eye candy with a social conscience, some people will hate it because it's not the original.
Prey (2022)
Really good take on the genre
This may have saved the genre Midthunder is excellent in the role, it's a bit like an origin story and it's action is exciting and has a really good story, the fight scenes are well thought out and at no point was I thinking that was just stupid as you do in most of these movies
Definately recommend this to anyone who's a fan of the original Predator, it's different but enjoyable.
The Debt Collector (2018)
Not at all bad
Apart from the thing with the cows (you'll know when you watch it) this is not a bad movie, Louis Mandalor is a underrated actor, I can't remember seeing him in something where he wasn't the best thing on screen
The plot is simple, if it can be called a plot, the acting is as you would expect and the fight scenes are well choreographed, the gunfights are ridiculous as is some of the dialogue but if your looking for something that takes no brain cells to process this is ideal.
The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch (2020)
What do you expect?
So funny seeing people complain that there's no answers, if they answered the questions in S1 then there's no S2.
It's not a science show it's entertainment and as such it's ok, it's full of hyperbole and dramatic mood music, there's some parts that have no meaning except than to intro some new people.
So funny when they have a magnet in a locked case and in a locked room and they build it up like it's an Alien in the box.
The stories of the mutilated cattle are terrible so what should they do? Get some cattle and see what happens .
Destination Fear (2019)
It's just entertaining
The fact that some people are saying this is fake and believe that all the other shows in this genre are real makes me laugh, they're ALL fake, some are entertaining some not so much, this is entertaining because they seem to actually get scared which is hilarious as there is no such thing as ghosts but when your in a situation that's dark and quiet your brain can do very strange things, it's for protection because as humans we are wired to be scared of the dark because that's when the predators come out to eat, seeing this play out is hilarious, and they are either actually scared or very good actors, but that really doesn't matter
Every one of this kind of shows trot out the same old tropes of "this is what spirits do" whilst never photographing or videoing any actual evidence but that's not the point of these shows it's for entertainment it's not a scientific research show.
Good luck to them I hope they get another series to annoy all the haters haha 😂
Resident Evil (2022)
Poor but not as bad as some are saying
Look it's not great, the movies we're not great but watchable and this is the same.
I kept watching and it got a little better but really Netflix you could do so much better with the source material.
There's good and bad points, mostly bad but occasionally there's a bit of light in this sewer of a show
It's not winning any Oscar's, Netflix need to watch Disney Plus shows and see how things should be made.
Eraser: Reborn (2022)
Wow this is poor
From the script to the story to the effects to the fight scenes and did I mention the acting, the story is disjointed at best, they seemed to throw effects at it for some reason and they were terrible, I could do better with MS Paint, the script is horrid how they expect actors to make anything out of this is a mystery, I think the director just threw a lot of film cliche's in a hat a picked them randomly, explosions and very poor CGI animals for no reason.
Moon Knight (2022)
Like it but don't love it
I like this show but it's not one that I could love, I think it's a fact that I just don't like characters that whine all the time, the main character is constantly moaning, nobody is ever that scared eventually a survival instinct kicks in but not in this.
It's watchable but I don't wait for the next episode to drop.
Moonfall (2022)
Don't engage your brain
Just take it for what it is, a special effects spectacular, a story full of holes and plot that's weaker than an asthmatic wasp
Just sit in your comfy chair, grab your popcorn and cola and relax and enjoy the spectacle.
2048: Nowhere to Run (2017)
Dave Bautista is really good
It's strange to see Bautista in acting roles and being more nuanced than just a big bloke who can fight, he gives the character depth and leaves me wanting to know a lot more about the origin of Sapper, I think that would be an interesting movie and will work well within the Blade Runner franchise.
The Batman (2022)
Great reboot
I was wary when Pattinson and Kravitz were given the lead roles, but they were both so good, it was a great story, I sometimes wondered if could be shorter than the three hours but they were all needed
Very well made, well acted and good story.
Blacklight (2022)
Wow but not in a good way
I'm not sure what I just watched, it's so bad, the best part is the acting of the little girl playing his granddaughter
It's as if they were working to a strict budget and time constraints and they had to cut lots of story out of it to make it fit
Neeson has played the same character since Taken, this is usually ok but with no story to hood on to this is terrible.
Last Man Down (2021)
Budget Rambo
This is so bad, I'm not sure f it was everyone involved first try, actors that had never acted, writers that had never written and a director that had come straight from a school production of fiddler on the roof!
It was so bad I gave it 3 because they were acting in a second language but that does not excuse the dialogue, the plot and the acting.
Most of the action takes part in the woods and the trees were the most realistic part of it.
Fistful of Vengeance (2022)
Unfortunately poor
I really wanted to give this a rave review, I loved the Wu Assassin TV Show but this is a pale imitation.
I felt bad for scoring it so low
The story is poor, it's as if they rushed to out a movie together so that people would remember the Wu Assassin existed , they should not have bothered, the story is disjointed with no character development, characters appear with no real addition to the storyline, the bad guys wear black leather jackets with metal studs and the hood guys wear normal street clothes that's the level this is working at
Poor editing and production make for a film that had potential to come across as poor and Ill-conceived, I'm not if Katheryn Winnick could have rescued this?
The good points are the fight scenes with Uwais and Tan kicking but, they are well choreographed as you would expect from something with Iko Uwais starring
Watch it if you like long decent choreographed martial arts sequences, just turn your brain all the way down to not caring what you watch mode and you'll be ok.
Peacemaker (2022)
Great Stuff
This is mental but in a good way, it's funny, sad, exciting at times, Cena is great as the titular "hero" with so many faults, Vigilante is such a great character, it's never really explained how he got to be if you don't get it you will probably hate it and it won't be for everyone.
Reacher (2022)
At Last a representation of the Reacher from the novels
It's been a while to find it after the vanity project from Tom Cruise, a the 6ft 5" man mountain with a 50" chest played by a 5ft 7" guy never made any sense, this however is a much better depiction, Alan Richson manages to tread the fine line between violent psycho and moral crusader, he embodies the Reacher role.
The story is fast paced with some really decent acting and great action scenes, it's rare that you watch a series and you try to out off watching the last ep because you want to savour it.
Willa Fitzgerald does a great job of playing the tough cop in a male dominated world with a softer side and Malcolm Goodwin is always good in everything he's done that I have seen, bring on S2.
Wolf Like Me (2022)
Be ready for an emotional rollercoaster
From laughter to tears is what I felt watching this show, amazing performances from all involved, it's funny and sad it's well written and well acted.
