Hot Bot (2016)
Disgustingly awful movie in every way.
This movie is absolutely terrible in every single way.
Let's get one thing out of the way - if you go into this movie thinking it's going to have sexy babes, nudity galore, you are going to be sorely disappointed. There is none aside from a very short topless scene at the very beginning.
The writing is awful, the story is barely passable, it has little to no background music, the characters are all unlikable, and it uses very poor taste in "jokes."
There is no one redeeming feature of this movie. Pass on it, watch something else, anything else. If you have two choices and one is this movie and the other is birdemic, watch birdemic.
Moonbeam City (2015)
Archer rip-off? Hardly.
One can see the similarities between Archer and this show but one could also see the similarities in this show with every other show which uses failure as the theme such as The Venture Brothers, Frisky Dingo, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, or Always Sunny in Philadelphia to name a few.
All of the characters are independently likable and unlikable as they are meant to be. The main characters of the show all show traits of inadequacy and incompetence in a fictitious world that seemingly doesn't know any better. Everyone in the show wishes to be unaccountable for their actions but there are times when they will admit their faults and give credit to the right person. Success is found in subtle short supply as expected in a show of this nature.
The show uses 80's style featuring neon lights, lasers, music, and clothing with a very well done and unique artistic expression. It is as if the 80's never left us and this is how it could be in today's time. Mid-season you get an explanation as to why and how the world is this way. Throughout the entirety of the season we are presented with enough exposition and back stories to each character to give a strong starting point for a second season.
I was hooked from the very first episode and found myself yearning for more. Having seen the 10th episode I assume it is the last of the season and have high hopes it will get another season.
Why is this show not like Archer, you may be asking yourself. Archer is a worldwide known super spy with a large set of skills that make him one. Archer's attitude is as such because he is at the top of his career and feels that everyone should respect him without question due to that. Dazzle, the main protagonist in Moonbeam City, is a barely known or remembered city police officer with few if any skills who shamelessly promotes himself regardless of whether or not he is any good at what he does. Some might see relative attitudes from the other characters in the show but none of them share similar traits. The perceived similarities result in the positions of power people are in rather than the character they are acting as.
Loonatics Unleashed (2005)
Excellent show with few faults
When you begin watching this show one must realize that it is set 700+ years in the future. The main characters mimic the looney tunes originals but do not get into the same kind of situations. They are superheros for this show so many things are going to be unlike the original show. This does not qualify as a demerit.
I recently found this show and have only watched two episodes so far but I will watch the rest. The characters act much like their original counterparts and are similar in attitude to the New Looney Tunes Show on Cartoon Network.
I will say that it is an excellent show with clear plot lines, great action, lots of fancy stuff, terrific artwork, and humor while slight is prominent.
-No spoilers, everything I mention here you'll be asking yourself after the first episode too.
I have a few problems with the show that I wish they would have amended when it first came out. First of all, the origin story is vague at best. Who is the hologram lady giving the loonatics commands? Who funded their mega tower? How did they come to find each other? How much time between the meteor hitting and what we see in episode 1 did the characters hang out? Tech E Coyote sure seems to have a lot of money and quite a lot of inventions for the assumed short time they have been superheros.
Far too much is left up to your own imagination and is never explained. Regardless, I can look past these faults and enjoy the show for what it is.
